I think all these cameras are amzing but i will still probably only be able to afford the fixed lense scarlet.

So i was wondering when the price will be announced for that camera and need to know how much for the bare minimum accessories to make the camera functional. Because I have been ready to buy a camera for a little while now but have been waiting for this announcement. I would love to own one but dont want to wait any longer to buy unless I know I can afford it. And im not trying to be negative because I think the RED team has done an amazing job and I wish I could afford a S35 scarlet. I think all the cameras are amazingly priced compared to the competition.

So please just announce the price for the fixed lense Scarlet or at least let us know when you will announce the price. Anyone else agree?

ONE THING i care about right now is for RED TO PUSH THE DATE OF FIXED LENS RELEASE TO SUMMER 09 instead of FALL09!!!!! PLEASE !!! how about a $200 early copy FEE i`m on it... as long as i get my hands on it in the summer!!!!

It seems Jim and Red have over delivered in every way, every time
so in all likelyhood it will be $3000 for 3K camera (plus hidden extra features)
but whether they can make them fast enough?

I mean there must be about 5000 red ones sold (guess based on reservation backlog back in october) and even if consumer demand was ten times that – then that means they will need to ship 50,000 scarlet cameras.

Ten times is a conservative guess ... it could be closer to twenty times ...
Either way that is one huge truckload of lenses.

Get used to delivery dates changing around here, folks... if they say Fall 2009... don't line up any important projects till Winter 09. Even if they do deliver on time, the learning curve in post will be steep for you, especially if you're coming from a MiniDV background, which I would suppose that most users that are salivating over a $3k camera would be.

Not to knock miniDV, I was totally there once, learned tonnes, and have seen fantastic films shot on it.

Not to knock what you are saying, but the learning curve for the workflow is not too much different than any other nonlinear editing system, just larger files. I have installed Redcine and it is pretty easy to work with. You just need a computer with a really good graphics card, fast processor and enough memory to handle the r3d files.

As for the first post of this thread yes I agree I would like to know the prices of the base model Scarlet and the other accessories that are in the works for it and Epic. This way I can start saving money for my camera system.

I've got the money for the S35 version of scarlet ready to go. I've got a RED LCD already, so just need Power, a I/O, and either a handle or back, whichever is cheaper. Probably a handle.

Guy you better settle in here.. It's gonna be a long time before you start seeing the new systems. And I am guessing pricing won't be for a while either.

Jay

I would strongly advise you guys listen to Jay's words of wisdom.....
