Jim in the news, Again

Well, we know him better then the people who call him "James".

Ah Jim, you're like a distant alcoholic father.

I like how they quote the "affordable" part as if that was somehow incorrect or ironic...:violent5:

I guess the idea of the red one being affordable at the price it is looks different to a journalist compared to say a filmmaker.

After all I could make the Sony f35 seem pretty affordable if I were a successful rental house.

"Affordability" in really is somewhat subjective, for someone like myself whom has no job and no steady income or even the contacts in the business to get paid work the red one looks pretty expensive to me.
Even as a rental camera.

...and I'm just a poor student. Doesn't mean RED is any less affordable for, say, those who can afford it. As you say, it's all about context. However, context is just not personal - it's about what the camera is competing against. And against the competition RED kicks major doors down as everyone knows by now - price / feature ratio + RED = Win! :drool5:

So in the context of RED Digital Cinema and the feature set RED One / RED M-X / EPIC provides...well, each to his own - but I'd call that pretty ridiculously affordable. Well worth every penny you pay for it. :cheers2:
But you're certainly right, RED isn't for everyone. Hell, I can't afford it atm for a short that I wanted to shot with a M-X so bad that I cringed at the thought of using anything else. However, that won't stop me from using the best tool for the job (gosh, that seems to be the most repeated sentence ever around here ). So, peace out! :emote_hippie:

It is a relative term. A Red cam setup is affordable in respects to a comprable Panavision, Arri or Sony camera.

Ha I just had a flash back to when i sent in my money transfer to red... the teller looked at me and asked what I was buying.... when I said " A Camera" she looked at me like i was missing a few screws.
