  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Jim comes into the 3D workshop !

Ahh, at that price, it will be around the same as the Sony F-3 street, how very suiting :-)

But the F3 will have a LCD, EVF, and "recording module" built-in. Sounds like it'll be another $3-4k minimum to get the EPIC-L to actually shoot a picture...correct me if I'm wrong.

These "professional" upgrades better be something special to warrant a $5k increase.

Well. "Shoot a picture". That's actually what the brain does. If you were willing to take a lot of headaches. But yeah, I'd wager you could go cheap on a few things to get it into F3's price range. Go with CF instead of SSD, buy another non-RED brand EVF (if you buy one at all, that is), skimp on anything not necessary (as in: not absolutely must-have-or-I-die) and you should get pretty close.
Then again, even if it does cost more...so what? It shoots 5K in a matchbox. That's unbelievable for even the price of RED M-X! I mean, broadcast cameras for 200,000$ come to mind...:violin:

But F3, AF100, EPIC-S...options people! Learn 'em. Live 'em. Love 'em.

Yup, this is the panorama:

Wow, and I thought Scarlet 3K's price had skyrocketed! Since being announced Scarlet's price has increased nearly 92%, and since going modular it has increased 53%. However, since November 2009's announcement, it has gone up only (and it pains me greatly to use that word) 21%. On the other hand, since November 2009 Scarlet S35 -- now rebadged Epic-S (aka Epic Light) -- has increased about 70%, assuming that the $12,000 figure is correct. Another way to look at it: it's increased by almost the price (the most recently quoted one, anyway) of the Scarlet 3K fixed kit.

Keeping things in perspective, there's still no other camera announced that has remotely similar specs at a similar price. So complaining about price seems really silly.

it's just so obvious that RED is price gouging. just because they have the best product doesn't mean they have to make us pay way less than any other camera out there! i mean, come on!

Agreed...I don't think people are complaining that the price is too much for what you get in return. But, when these guys have been looking forward to THIS camera to be available for $7k (body), only to find that it'll be shipping FINALLY, but with a new name....for $5k more. Well, that's just really dissapointing.
