Wholly shit.
One of the best possible things about working at RED studios on a stage or set and or even doing a workshop while just being at the RED Studios in Hollywood is that from time to time Jim comes in.
My good friend Dino pointed that out to me.

But today was just so damn cool.
In the most simple ways put, the 45 minutes he may spend with a class or group.
Is simply wonderful.

Not questions like when will this or that camera come out.
No its more enlightening to hear how 1 single man changed the mind of so many men. Men and women who move this industry, men and women who leave their personal imprints on film that will be around potentially for the rest of man kind. Now they will leave their imprints with something else at the same or better quality of FILM.

To hear the ideas, experience, evolution, and some of the thoughts or process of creating a camera company that becomes THE BEST in the world... is overwhelming.
From Oakley to THE BEST CAMERA COMPANY in the world is exciting to hear.

Its one of the most interesting times in television and cinema from a technological stand point. It is one of the most inspiring and driven forces I have ever seen.
Now I have not been in this industry for decades as many of my mentors have, but the general consensus is that RED pushes the technology and industry forward.
While it dives into the deep breaking threw ideas and creating new technologies.

Other companies seems to either get left behind and or some technologies seem they will fade faster than previously thought.

Safe to say that RED will be doing several 3D movies this year. MAJOR budget movies.
We all know about THE HOBBIT
and we all know about Spiderman 4
and some of us know about a cool movie thats gonna happen in NY
But I look forward to the announcements of how many movies will be done in 2011 in 3D by RED Epics and or even MX.

What a fantastic feeling.

Now back to class.
Santa Fe 3D class is rocking.

What!? What defect does Jim have when he prefers Cahuenga Blvd. to Fiji? I thought he was on a much deserved retreat somewhere in the south pacific. Oh, well. Welcome back, Jim. Any word on the Epic S pricing?

Expect more than the Scarlet S35. But also expect more capability. Think Professional.

Awesome. That's for the brain only, naturally. I feel like that's stealing...only it's legal.

Closer to March, June, or August '11 or later (provided no major drama)? :biggrinjester:

Depending on EPIC orders...

Feb. to begin EPIC-X production and April to begin EPIC-S production. Scarlet right in there somewhere.

That could change depending on a lot of things.

Jim

Can someone explain the difference between EPIC X and EPIC S ?

Is X the Machined EPIC (as in not stage 2)
Is S the (stage two production EPIC)

Pre-production EPICs are called “EPIC-M”. “M” stands for “machined” – all the parts will be machined with CNC machines. EPIC-Ms will not be any different from production EPICs (Epic-X) except the way they’re built. Production cameras will be cast aluminum bodies (like the RED ONEs), EPIC-M bodies will be made from billet aluminum, resulting in a high quality product.

We don't know much about the Epic-S yet. It's the camera formerly known as Scarlet S35. We should hear about it pretty soon...

Thanks Tobias.

I think that this has been the Santa Fe 3d Workshop where the tagline "everything changes" couldn't have been more appropriate!

The changes in schedule have had Vince, Steve, Maninder and me spinning but it's nearly all been for the better!

Before anyone asks what wasn't for the better, 3ality decided that The Hobbit and Spiderman were more important than us!

Really!

Geoff, already up? Must be the excitement... Yes, 3ality is a disappointment. Fortunately there are others for us smaller boys. Lim

Ahh, at that price, it will be around the same as the Sony F-3 street, how very suiting :-) However, I really think the Epic-S should try to be really close to $12K, or right on it, that is, below $13K, to still be cheaper than the F-3. However worlds apart they are in features, for many people, it will come down to "two S35 sensor cameras for the same price, one is by old, trusted Sony and one by the upstart RED, take your pick" If Epic S can stay below the F-3 by a grand or so, that would be a major factor, however not it might appear.

I thought it was like this..

Epic-M - Preproduction Machined Built
Epic-X for stage 2 and 3 with higher redcode rates
Epic S35 - Everyone else
Epic L- old scarlet s35

Am I Wrong?
