  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Jim Cameron buys...

First, off let me add my congratulations to the surfeit already here.

I was wondering why Cameron hadn't bought some yet.

I wonder now what tipped the scales for him. I'm completely prepared to believe that he was focused on the Arri Alexa and Alexa-M during the NAB timeframe. Now, he buys 50 Epic M cameras.

That's a big commitment- and I'd love to peek into that decision process.

Great news, the more big names associated with Epic the more dominant its market share will be, it´s pretty obivious it will be even larger than what the RED ONE was(is). The competition will bleed when Epics start to saturate the market!
Now we need those Epic-X´s to start shipping, so us mere mortals can join the fun ;-)

I'm sorry, but I must ask. What is your obsession regarding the EPIC-S + Dragon Sensor all about? Do you seriously expect the two to cost less than $15,000 for the body only? I'm afraid I can't read your talk as a joke...maybe it even isnt. I like to be one with an optimist outlook...however, I also realize that we need to refrain from deviating away from reality.

As generous as RED is, I can see how some can be fooled for a second or two. But I have to break it to you. RED is actually not a charity organization.

RED has also made it clear that they have found out who they are. They are not the company who wishes to sell a cheap HD camera to the masses, as you have for so long been clamoring for. They instead, are a CINEMA grade company, who have the ability to make products which are not only sought after by the top tier of filmmakers for their QUALITY, but also down to the filmmakers who are in their season of formation and are looking for AFFORDABILITY.

(Hopefully I don't come across as being harsh, but rather one who is making a few points that desperately need to be addressed)

I was talking as an early RED ONE reservation owner and if RED suddenly changed there is no need for any sort of bitterness and also to advocate something more about that step.

Also to clear that I did't talk about any sort of charity but just only about a business.

Don't you wish you were there... just because life is all about a change...

Hmm... I wonder where that leaves the Alexa M - is/was he just testing multiple options?
When he uses EPIC cameras, will that mean we will see movies released in 48/60p AND 4K?

In essence it is not very surprising when you consider the cleanliness of RedCode, the flexibility in post, the framerates available, the low mass and the resolution and all that gives to post.

For cinematic release, REDs have IMHO much more to offer than anything.

Oh that's great. I was very pissed when I saw JC smiling with the Arri guys. I thought that I'm at the wrong movie.
Now this is great news and a milestone for RED. End of argument.

Yeah and please give Toia his M. He will rock the shit out of it much sooner than JC would. :001_smile:

Oh and yeah, give me my X2, but that's an other story.

Rock on guys
Tim

So I am going to own a camera which shots today's major motion pictures ...... and as easy if shooting home video! Someone wake me up.....

Does this mean Mr Cameron jumps the line and the line gets longer by 50 units ? or more likely i missed a step being a new user?

the epic X is the thing with the line.
epic M is built to order and somekind of Beta stage asfaik
but mark toia should get one Epic M too, would minimize the risk of an heart attack :)

Really?

"I'm very excited about the ALEXA and what this will do for filmmaking. It's going to be revolutionary.""
James Cameron, a week or so ago.

You know what that means? It means that out there, in the real world, someone like Cameron can start a joint venture with a company, investing millions of dollars to develop a product, and at the same time spend some other money on another company's product. It's called free market and freedom of choice. In the real world most professionals are really less partisan than what it would seem by reading some posts on this forums (or elsewhere on the web). The world is not really black and white, and most people would pick the tools they like, without thinking that they're part of some strange and pointless marketing battle on the internet, with "factions" and "fanboys".

I don't give a damn about Cameron becoming a partner of Arri or buying a gazillion Epics. All I care for is STORIES and good storytelling, and I'm afraid I'm seeing less and less of those these days....but maybe that's just me.

so why do you hang out on a technical forum?
and why especially on a forum dedicated to the red technology?
