Hi Friends,

I love jibs with all my heart, and I need a small one that folds up, is light and I can travel with.

I came across this Ikan Carbon Fiber Mini Jib. Anyone have experience with it? In the reviews, one person said it works well with their Red; but wanted to see what others have to say.

Also, if you guys have any other recs for a small, light, compact jib; I'm all ears.

Thanks

The Seven jib from Long Valley is excellent.

That's my favorite jib (third Jib I've owned, and my favorite by far). Still a bit cumbersome to ship around, but worth it.

Maybe consider the iFootage MI-III? It's carbon fiber and portable, and although I haven't seen one in person, it looks promising. Not sure if it can handle the payload, but worth investigating. I have their S1 slider and it's fucking gold, so I'm sure the build quality is comparably stellar.

Not sure how light and compact you need, but the Cinevate Axis Jib has been real good to me over the last few years. The single tube design means it sets up faster than anything else out there, and there's no awkward issues with crushed fingers and other extremities.

And it doesn't blink an eyelid at a fully rigged Alexa, so it's tough as nails too.

Packs down in a nice, wheelable case.

I just ordered the iFootage from B&H. Looks amazing for $500. I'll give a report when I get it. Specs say 30lb load so good for Red.

Gene, from the look of it I just don't think that one will support the weight of a brick holding Red (without wobble and other unsteady issues) . I hope it works for you, but its a good thing BnH has a great return policy just in case ;)

We know this one works well https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/871601-REG/Cinevate_Inc_CINJIB01_Axis_Jib.html
But larger and for 3 times the price...

Super curious if it will handle the load. It looks amazing (especially for the price), so definitely keep us posted!

After Seeing all the good reviews on the iFootage MI-III, I got it and used it to shoot a short film this weekend as we wanted a slightly floaty feel.

One word: AMAZING. Best $500 I've ever spent. Really light, extremely sturdy and so well made. The attention to details is great.

The jib specs list 30 lbs as the limit. My rig is 20 lbs including mattbox, FF, etc..., Fluid Head and it supported it no problem. The carbon fiber is a square tube instead of round which makes it able to support a much heavier load.

The only issue we ran into is that it squeaked loudly at first, but it turned out a bolt was too tight. We loosened the bolt and it was whisper silent.

Hi Gene, that's great to hear I've been looking at that jib for a while. Were you able to fly your rig with the jib at full extension or is the 30lb limit only with it retracted at it's shortest length? Do you have any photos of the setup? Thanks!
