  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Jib arm with stabilized head for filming on lake?

Libra is the key and Mako as a second choice are the best. Mako will be fixed but Libra will give you mobility. No good experience with any Tyler equipment so far.

EDIT: Maybe there is a chance you can use the Mako with the Kessler crane. I do not recall the weight of the Mako, but it is something similar to the weight of a loaded Red One, and is cheap to rent.

Dude, he has already drowned an EPIC in the drink using an RC Heli, we are trying to help stop it happening again

If you're referring to the guys at SnapRoll drowning an EPIC, you are mistaken. That was not them. They've had many successful shoots with the ONE, ONE MX, and EPIC without any tragedy.

When you all are flying steadicams on hard mounts like this, do you use a different gimbal or other method to "stiffen" the gimbal sensitivity to wind and such? Or do you balance it such that the CG is closer to the camera? In wind, and on "bumpy" platforms, the gimbal freedom seems a hindrance...

If you stiffened the gimbal, you would be defeating the purpose of the gimbal. I have found that over about 30 mph the wind gets to be pretty tough. On car rigs and such wind screens help. Really it's lake powel right? It's flat as a pancake compared to the ocean. I doubt that boat is going to do more than 20 knts. Your hand cramps up pretty good after extensive operating ;-) In general a more solid grip on the gimbal than you would normally use is enough to counter the wind. Gyros on the steadicam can also help in high wind. I would rig two ks4s to the the camera it's self if shooting with an Epic. The added mass where the camera is will help a lot. That would probably be the biggest issue, the epic being so light.

No I was referring to Tom's mishap? Apparently his EPIC went under? First? Using a RC heli, I don't know who owned it or built it but pretty sure it was ditched in the drink with Tom's camera attached?

Yes technically they were the first to fly an EPIC. However, as Jarred can confirm, SnapRoll was the first to fly it successfully :) I was lucky enough to have witnessed it

It was definitely not Snaproll who crashed my Epic into the Salton Sea. It was someone else.

So how expensive is a Libra head for 4 days? Are there any cheaper alternatives that function in a similar way?
