Hello,

I am asked to do a last minute shoot for a jewel brand that looks something like this. http://bit.ly/2wenDtV
So I will be using macro lenses.
And for lighting I don't think I have much options. Just a white backdrop with a aputure LS1 which I can dim if needed from top right? (perhaps a softbox), but I think at this distance it does not matter much?
The spinning part is going to be the most difficult I think. I have manual pizza spinners, which I place some white paper on. And spin that slowly around. Any other tips?

Thanks!

These two Kay Jewelers commercials have subtle background patterns.

I would be careful about how you spin. Some of the turntable style that you can buy online are not very good in my opinion. If you find you are doing a lot of this kid of stuff, I would recommend going for one of the better ones that provides multiple speeds and a smooth rotation. Any of the ones that stutter really blow the effect in my opinion. There's also ways to do this with camera as well.

Yeah I do not seem able to find anybody that rents this kind of turntables/spinners.

I've used a lot of different turn tables and for the most part, they don't work for this kind of macro shooting because they aren't smooth enough. I would recommend either a very high end turn table($$$$) or if you'll have a PA close by and are on a budget, pick up a heavy duty metal sculpting wheel(https://www.amazon.com/US-Art-Suppl...-spons&keywords=metal+pottery+turntable&psc=1). I've done a few projects with these kinds of wheels and just tie a string around the base and pull the string to spin the top. They are extremely smooth and heavy, so they have a nice amount of momentum to keep things moving.

You should also consider one or two pinpoint light sources to provide specular highlights. This will make the faceted jewels really pop.
