  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

it works fine with me and its Super Fast ;).

Why do you say the Sonnet is not compatible with new Mac Pro? It has been for some months now. I'm using them myself. Just make sure you order one from a vendor that has the latest Riser board AND TB2 card in it (which should be all new stock at this point).

If you don't mind swapping CPU's you can always start with a 4 core machine and grab a 10 Core 2690v2 for $1500 less than a 12 Core from the factory. Most benchmarks we've seen and run have been 2-5% less performance or on-par with the 12 Core with Core intensive apps. Those apps that need faster clock speeds are where the 10 Core can pull ahead of the 12.

FWIW, I just benchmarked playback of 6K FF at REDCODE 5:1 and found that with a RR-X and a GTX Titan (6GB) card in a 2012 Mac Pro. I could get full real-time playback of 24 fps using the latest CUDA driver (6.0.51) and the CUDA preference setting in RCX. With the OpenCL preference setting in RCX I could mostly get real-time playback at 24fps, but with dips down to 20fps (every few seconds) and sometimes as low as 7fps (every few minutes). So at the moment, CUDA beats OpenCL in the oMP. I don't have a TB PCI cage, but with 8-core nMP and dual D700 cards (and OpenCL preference) I could only get real-time playback using 1/2 debayer size. Again, FWIW.
