Jean-Jacques Annaud (Quest for Fire, The Name of the Rose, The Lover, Seven years in Tibet, Enemy at the gates, Two Brothers...) working with Canon 5D !

But just for "Repérages"....

Jean-Marie Dreujou, member of AFC (Association Française des directeurs de la photographie Cinématographique) speak about him and made himself some tests with the Canon 5D MKII...

So for him, it's a good second cam for special shots, but not so easy to use....:emote_head_explode:

...5D MKII shots on film are very enjoyable !!!

In this test, process from CompactFlash to film (DPX) is made by Blue3ds. In a pdf available at

I looked thru the Blue3DS site and based on my crappy translations it looks like they are just taking the h264 footage and converting to DPX files...no magic. Also the hardware seems to be a Blue3DS config of stock hardware...nothing here from Canon.

BLUE3DS rents its CANON cases configured, their accessories and cases HDSDI with the customers who make the DIRECT handling DIGITAL to DPX System. We recommend, for monitoring, the monitors type ASTRO on which you can charge a LUTE 3D. For the catches of sight in its synchronous, our apparatuses are connected to a case TC GEN which writes TC on a track sound. With a “main” case, one can synchronize without problem several apparatuses equipped each one with their case “slave”, as well as the material its planned for l' recording. * Choice of the charts * Material choice of catch of sight * Choice setting rates of sight * Options of turning * Treatment BLUE3DS * Delivery DPX A process tested and reliable for an optimal quality

from another forum:
OK folks, Here is the deal. I have spoken with Mr. Garcia Olivier at Blue 3DS. As I speak french and live in Paris, it seemed logical to contact him.

The firmware is NOT Canon's. It is their modification. It allows them to shoot with the 5D Mark 2 and produce 35mm film-outs. They are currently working on 3 feature films shot this way. They are able to treat the images as 4.2.2 from a CF card without dealing with the H.264 codec. Mr. Olivier told me that getting rid of the letterbox was child's play and while not able to get rid of all the artifacts, they specialize in pixel to pixel correction. They provide all the necessary rental equipment, including anti-aliasing filters and obviously the post-production workflow.

He was able to tell me with an of informed assurance that he was certain that the 24/25p firmware update was coming.

Et Voila!

So, he rents this box for CF to 4:2:2 codec or is it a firmware that they designed for the 5D2?

Pretty impressive...but it would be great to see some footage from their tests.

WTF this is the first I have heard of this.

Sounds like the aliasing is still a problem, though.
