What has happened, and what is currently happening, is almost hard to believe. The monumental nature of this has significantly touched everyone in the world who has a pulse.

All of us at RED offer our heartfelt prayers to those affected by this tragedy. We have many friends and business associates in Japan as well as a sense of the world community we are all a part of.

Its totally nuts. As a fellow engineer maybe you can understand how insane it is to have nuclear reactors without fool proof fail safe systems? I'm no nuclear engineer but somehow it doesn't seem safe to built reactors near a fault line.

Peace be upon you all. Hopefully they wont handle it like a Katrina. :thumbup1:

I send my prayers to all the families and all the people affected by this tragedy! i have many friends back in japan from when i was stationed there!!

It's so sad and crazy

I got an email from our friends at ebony view camera in Tokyo, they didn't get too much damage but the city was shut down. My brother has a bunch of friends that are unaccounted for :(

This video posted on gizmodo is insane. That must've been so scary to see the water rise and just pick up houses like it was nothing

The reactors were all built to be earthquake resistant with a bunch of safeguards and containment systems ( which seem to have worked pretty well so far ) ... but a 8.9 is pretty hard for anything to stand up to.

The pictures of the devastation are almost beyond comprehension. Our hearts go out to everyone there.

I feel connected to the situation and victims in more ways than just ancestry. I've been dropping by here occasionally just to escape the tragedy on TV. Nice to know the owner of the house also cares.

Very sad news, my condolences to all affected. Mother nature is a bit pissed off at the moment. The only good things that can come from this are ....(and shoot me down for saying so if need be).... those massive factory ships over exploiting our fish stocks are now out of operation for a while and we will be re-thinking about nuclear power plants and their safety...take care and enjoy life while you have it

I watched a couple documentaries on Chernobyl the other day, and was that crazy! Bio Robots, look that up. That takes some guts.

Not to make light of the situation, but this reminds me of one of my "favorite" movies, Class of Nuke'em High. :arf:

You guys should watch the anime "Tokyo Magnitude 8.0" from 2009. It's really close to the current situation.

Agree with all the sentiments. Terrible disaster. Our prayers are with them

IMHO now is the time to offer support and prayer to the Japanese people- not criticism of their energy policy. It would be prudent to remember that nothing is accident proof or entirely safe from tragedy.

For those that would like to take an active hand in offering their support here is a link that provides a list of several charitable organizations that are actively helping the people of the great nation of Japan- to whom my heart goes out to in this difficult time.

Over 180 people died in New Zealands recent earthquake in Christchurch, which we concider to be one of New Zealands darkest days... For this to happen to Japan so soon after is so, surreal.
