What an amazing day. I am super impressed with the Scarlet announcement and how much it blew any other camera in it's price range away. It got me thinking about the Apple "The Crazy Ones" commercial that relaunched Apple back in 90's. I had listened to it yesterday afternoon. Here is the copy:
"Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes.
The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them.
About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They invent. They imagine. They heal. They explore. They create. They inspire. They push the human race forward.
Maybe they have to be crazy.
How else can you stare at an empty canvas and see a work of art? Or sit in silence and hear a song that’s never been written? Or gaze at a red planet and see a laboratory on wheels?
We make tools for these kinds of people.
While some see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do."
Yesterday, you Jarred, and the rest of the team were truly "The crazy ones. The misfits. The Rebels. The ones who see things differently." You changed the world as we know it. You have been doing that since the inception of this company.
I have been shooting Red since April of 2008. I was lucky to be handed the Red "Oakley 3" camera for 3 years from your old crew over there. It blew me away and changed my perspective on the Digital Cinema Space. I shot the Epic last week and was completely floored by it's power and capabilities. We all waited years for yesterday. I don't think any of us could have imagined the culmination of you and your teams effort as it came together.
-Canon coming into the mix with their "big announcement"
-Red deciding to go head to head with them on the same day with the new baby
-The last minute changes to the camera in the days leading up to the event
-The cyber attack
-and finally the long anticipated Scarlet
Well hats off to you guys. You are the most disruptive force this industry has probably ever seen. I look forward to the years to come and all that will be created as a result of your teams undying efforts. Steve Jobs was a game changer and one I know alot of us look up to on reduser. He would have loved yesterday. He would love the future that you and the RED team have built!
