Jacques Tati sees Red

[Mark Whatmore]

For anyone at a loose end in the LA area this Friday, the Aero in Santa Monica (American Cinematheque) is showing the fantastic Jacques Tati film, 'Mon Oncle' and a new documentary about Tati called 'The Magnificent Tati', for which I shot all the interview sequences with my Red.

I just showed "Mon Oncle" to my kids last weekend! Four & Six years old and they loved it. Some things need no translation.

And I believe they are showing PLAYTIME -- his great 70mm masterpiece which really needs to be seen on the big screen. Very under recognized, but one of the greatest cinema "ballets" ever -- the mise-en-scene rivals Kurosawa, but all in the service of gentle and loving satire. A must see.
