Jacobs ladder diffusion

[David Ellison]

Can anyone help identify what filters / effects are being used in this movie whether it's some sort of pro mist filter or smoke machine to create that amazing diffusion technique.

Thanks.

Jacob's Ladder was shot by Jeffrey Kimball on Panavision cameras and lenses. Probably on their spherical super speeds. It's all about the lighting and the right amount of smoke on those sets. His work with Tony Scott on Top Gun and True Romance also features great examples of this style.

Bathroom scene looks very Kubrick lowcon. Adrian's probably right - old PV supers, smoke and lighting - but wouldnt be shocked if there was perhaps some sort of lowcon filter too.

I seem to recall when I saw it in a theater that there was also a very light Low-Con or ProMist being used... but mostly what you are seeing is smoke.
