Love it bro. What do I need to send your way to keep you going? Scotch? Cigars? :}

Scotch for Graeme, cigars for Jim, Jarred seams to run on giant Hersheys chocolate bars and I am not sure about the rest of the team...

:) Peter

Jarred,

How close are we to seeing fixed lens Scarlet grabs/footage?

Matthew

It's equivalent to a 35mm at 5.6.

Given the same sensor sizes, nothing changes. You might be correct for if this image was shot on a 35mm sized sensor. But if you're 2/3s all the way, it doesn't matter what format the lens is, it stays the same.

I think the better question would be what would an equivalent image be on the mini-RED Primes.

And I have to say, for being a smaller sized lens and with a T-Stop of 5.6, the DOF is amazing on that thing.

The equivalent min-Red prime would be a 35mm 5.6 . Nothing changes, whether you're shooting through the middle or not. No matter what format a lens is on, focal length is focal length. The field of view may change ACROSS DIFFERENT SENSOR SIZES but on the same sensor, any two lenses, no matter what size format they are made for, of the same focal length, will look the same on the SAME size sensor.

Of course, the quality of the lens could in theory be different, but I doubt RED would let us down in that department. The DOF and FOV will be the same.

The fixed 8x lens is a no excuse optical design. The image quality will be incredible. Given that it is autofocus and manual, it will not have an infinity stop in manual focus mode, although it is set up for gearing. We have a VERY new way to "fly by wire focus" for the fixed zoom that all will appreciate. It is the magic of that lens (along with the resolution).

The miniRED primes are manual only and are incredibly sharp and compact, only slightly larger than a robust C-mount lens.

Something tells me you got these lying around on the table as you type this

This is exciting! Looking forward to seeing some footage soon.

Just curious if you have any price ideas of the miniRED primes?

EDIT: maybe a better question which won't make any promises to anyone...is it likely or unlikely to see miniRED primes starting at around the $500 range. I am starting to like the interchangable options and am curious at how much more should I expect to have to spend to own a basic "complete kit" of an interchangable scarlett.

Quick correction applied.

I wouldn't over-analyze anything you have seen here... specially on quick screen grabs and double baked compressed video.

I'm still tweaking the prototype, Jim still needs to dial in the matrix, and Graeme hasn't put his magic pixies to work yet....I am just giving you a sneak peak look inside our world because you guys have been pretty patient as of late.

Thanks, Jarred.

This feels like deja vu around 2 years ago when we all were anticipating R1 Stills. My how time has flown by... and what a ride!

Was this filmed with the fixed lens? if so I am patiently waiting for mine.

Amazing!
Thanks, Jim and Jarred for nice pics and new info about lenses and fixed Scarlet!!! Now it's even harder to wait.
The more I know the more I want both of Scarlet fixed and with mout, but I now I can only afford only one....

It's been said many times in this thread but: that looks amazing. It seems like the new sensors have an almost silver-print like quality in the grays. So beautiful.

Thanks to everyone at Red
