I've disabled "indexing" on my RAID. But how do I search my RAID?

I've disabled Spotlight indexing on my 25TB RAID Thunderbolt thing-a-ma-jib. But once in a while I need to search for some sound effect or something. Is there any search function in OSX or through some 3rd party thingie, that can search the disc for a file, without me having Spotlight Indexing turned on all the time.

Originally I turned it off, because it kept indexing at weird times, and took too much resources. Now I just don't want some app to search and index though my drive, when I´m working.

How are you people doing?

Using a oldie but goodie -> DiskCatalogMaker. It's a holdover from the CD/DVD days. But it fast, simple and even catalogues offlines volumes. The software requires than you manually execute an index as it doesn't live in memory. Also NeoFinder provides similar functionality.
