Being on the Bleeding edge of technology is a tuff business. I worked for Apple for almost 15 years and I can say the challenges of trying to re-invent anything are many. Jim Jannard, had he asked for Steve Jobs advice, would have been told the that announcing products the way RED did with Scarlet early on, was just _______!!. If you want to get hammered by the public .... set expectations. Never ever promise to deliver ANYTHING specific EVER. Let your technology stand on its own merits and keep your mouth shut.
Instead very smart people at RED - did a very _____ thing.
Its very hard, and unbelievably expensive to make, deliver and service and support quality cutting edge stuff. Very hard. Its not whether RED makes good stuff, they make great stuff..... but they still have a lot to learn. If in doubt , promise nothing, announce nothing specific .. say nothing. At least not until your product is in full production and shipping is eminent.
Oh well, live and learn.
