  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

It's all over.... :) Viper/Scarlet >

Well, it's all irrelevant really. My only point was that part of the film was shot on film, which it was. That is all.
There's a curious story about to have been another shooter(s) crew to follow Brad Pitt in India on Fincher behalf. I read it somewhere, maybe in 'American Cinematographer'. No idea about the details now, a year later though.

No way! Can this be confirmed by Red?

Yep.

"The Social Network" also seems to be the film rumored to be getting those special carbon fiber bodied RED Ones. Although, I'm still highly skeptical of that and don't believe it. Given the reaction from RED when CF bodies were brought up on the forums.

Well the thing with CF bodies if they ever come out is that they carry more trouble with them than alu bodies and I find it quite pointless for these cameras as they are already very light.
CF exotic made bodies will be very expensive to replace in terms of a accident and you are probably not going to save much weight either as you will still need quite a Thick body to mount safely all the components and stuff.
But you ll never know with the red team, they are simply amaze everyone with their innovation so they might come up with the most exotic camera for very demanding and special applications...

is it only weight ? or is there a heat distribution benefit as well ?

Viper is a very small camera... so with an adapter like the SGblade I get better native ISO's than current REDone in a smaller size, more latitude, beautiful mechanical shutter motion, same resolution as RED in cinemascope and real time performance that is so critical in the advertising rental market... and my cost to buy it and use it was the same as a new RED... as for the green thing, a BMD HDlink with a set of LUT's is perfect...

So until a FF35 Epic is totally functional I'm very happy with my Viper... I get me 1500$ per day and I don't have competition from the thousands of RED's around me... the DoP's are doing reel to reel CC in the da'Vinci as they did for years with film with the same artists, with NO render, with the same quality as film... I don't want to sound arrogant but this is the reality... I have more things to fear from the 7D than from RED... at least for the ad market...

For the theatrical release market is a different story... RED is better choice technically... but with 15 RED's in a market that shoots 15 films a year... RED is bad business choice.
