Hey guys,

our camera guys brought some nice flamingo shoots back from the andes and i got problems with a few clips.
Lets say we have a D104_xyz.RDM folder containing subfolders ranging from D104_C001_xyz.RDC to D104_C076_xyz.RDC.
I am able to open most of the clips inside those subfolders in REDCINE-X Pro or any NLE just fine but some of the files won`t open at all. (no finder preview either)
I figured, that all of the files that can`t be opened started with an r3d file that is just 20KB in size.
Neither those, nor the following files that belong to that sequence can be opened (e.g D104_C001_xyz_001.R3D (20KB) and D104_C001_xyz_002.R3D 1,08GB)

Can you help me to explain what might went wrong here and if we can still make some use of the files that seem to contain data (*_002.R3D) but can`t be opened at all?
Thank you in advance for taking the time to help me out here. :)

Regards

Dennis

If an R3d is 20kb in size then it sounds to me like it was a record misfire or if you were using a trigger sometimes the trigger does not fully start the camera recording and leaves a 1frame r3d that shows up as media offline.

If the R3D is a part of a series of R3D's (multiple files for one clip), then that is normal.

@David

thank you for your quick reply.
My first assumption also was that it was a record misfire as you said but the files are indeed a part of a series of clips:
http://www.bilder-upload.eu/show.php?file=51b86c-1459601346.jpg

The first File is just 20KB as you can see from the picture but then D104_C017_0101AU_002.r3d is 4,03GB in size and D104_C017_0101AU_003 is 1,77GB so its supposed to contain something, right?
Unfortunately i can`t open the files with Redcine X Pro or RED Player, well i can but there is nothing in it i can`t play them back.
Any idea what i can do to verify if the files are junk for good or may still contain something i can put to use in post production?

Thank you for your time.

Hi Dennis,

Do these clips say "offline" in redcine? The simple fix has always been to delete the 12/20kb size files, then reload/refresh and the clips with actual media should come back online and be fine. This has often been caused when using pre-record. Initiating pre-record followed by an immediate record without a pause in between will cause this file to be created and make clips go offline. Hope that helps.

@Dawson

thaat did the trick for me, thank you very much for your help.
It was exactly as you said, the clips appeared offline in Redcine. As soon as i deleted the 20KB files the files were online and the finder preview reappeared.
Thank you very much. :)

@Chris
Thank you Chris, i got an Red Epic and was willing to try to preview the files in the camera but i am fine now :)

Thank you guys.
