I have had issues back to back dealing with my RED Mags (I own 2 64SSD's) where I will record on the RED and my atomos samurai and when I drop the footage in my Hard Drive the footage is not there? That happened once thank god I had my Filed Recorder as backup. The second issue I had I was filming an interview and the RED Mags filled up hella quick? When I went home it made copies inside the R3D Folders? Really weird anyone have this happen to you? Please let me know thanks!!!

I'm assuming by copies, you mean actual copies, and not just the .R3D file sequence limit of 4 GB (_001, _002, _003, _004) which is part of the FAT32 file structure. If you put a formated redmag from a different build into the camera, and then record, it might create subfolders and alternate reels which could have similar file names, but it shouldn't make duplicate .RDC folders.

No it made copies of the same video in the folders. has that ever happened to anyone?

So what you are seeing is something like the following folder structure?

A020_C001_0319OK.RDC /
A020_C001_0319OK_001.R3D
A020_C001_0319OK_001 copy.R3D

If it's a long interview, then those are not copies but rather it has split the file into sections. Can you post a screenshot of the file structure? When you view any of these, the whole interview will be opened. When you say that the ssd filled up quick, my questions would be "what was your compression ratio?" and "how quick?"
As for your other issue, were you aware that the camera can be set to only trigger an external recorder and not record to the internal ssd's?

Okay cool, my other question is why would I record on the RED with a RED MAG and then when I go to put it on the hard drive it was old footage from a prior shoot and I formatted the card. Has anyone had something like that happen to you?

The only way that could happen is if the format didn't actually happen. Maybe you didn't click OK to delete footage on this occasion?

You can confirm this if the new recording clip names follow on from the old footage.

I have seen this before. I have been on a gig for a year now using one card. Repeat ONE CARD...

So we dual record to a tethered avid station, and roll to the card as a backup in case it crashes, or for special over cranked shots. Stuff of that nature. This cards been cycled a lot and one time I had this happen. It had a clip that had been wiped plus the new clip. I redownloaded the old clip if I remember right and moved on.

I also sometimes have mounting problems AND copying problems. I have since started bringing my own card on this job to help cycle, but it has the same mounting issues and copying issues. The situation you described happened to me one time only, these other problems I am having are a daily thing. It kind of sucks honestly, but I just handle it best I can. I've done 1,400 videos for this company, 32tb of files. Its kind of amazing (the files are dnxhd 175x not red, the the size of the data is a ton)

Okay thanks guys for the heads up. I always Use my Samurai as a backup which has saved me on a really big shoot for a Car Commercial. Thanks guys for the help will really help out in the future thanks again!!!

Was the card formatted in the camera? That is the only way it should be done.

Just to make sure as it also might be the directory is corrupted I´d suggest to perform a secure format in camera. We had a corrupted directory on a card once.

Cheers, Ulf

Yeah I always format the card in the camera. Thanks Ulf and Bob for the help!!!
