I work for a film school in LA who has gotten two RED One Packages for student check outs. I am in the process of designing a workflow for students when they post their films.

With test shoots, I've noticed clips that in Red Alert, the clip looks like in camera settings including, however the clips when showing in the L&T window and imported into Final Cut, it looks like all clips were imported with an ISO of 320 even though some clips were set at 1000 and others at 160. Has anybody else seen this bug? This is not the same as the Gamma Shift bug I dont think. Also, FCP and Color are updated as well as Mac OS X is now at 10.5.6 and Quicktime is at 7.6.

Sidenote, if the clips are ingested in Native and sent to Color, the clips then are shown in there correct ISO in Color.

There are a few parameters in RA which are not yet transferring to FCP, but they are all there in Color. Please check the whitepaper on FCP, it's all listed.

If you are interested in exchange of ideas, please PM. I'm teaching film at an arts university and we've had our RED for nearly a year now…

I've read the whitepaper, ISO should be passed through L&T. I know the data is accessible in Color, but I have a shot for instance during a test that if set to 320 ISO like L&T is doing despite camera settings, will look almost completely black. Maybe this is something that is not set correctly on the RED ONE. I'm just hoping either someone has experienced this as well or knows of a specific setting in camera that would cause this.

We're working on this. It'll take a little time to complete though.

There's a work-around: open one file in RA, set it to default and adjust to your liking. Save it as a grade. Use that grade for import in FCP and you get your clips adjusted.

Isn't that what he did, only it didn't carry over the ISO?

ISO and exposure can be used alternatively.

nomad, if you read my problem plus Red's we're working on this and it will take some time to fix, it wasn't as simple as making a grade and saving an RLX file. The bug is that trying to import from the settings in the original metadata, looking at the same clip in Red Alert and L&T, show two completely different images where it looks to be L&T ignores the "IN CAMERA" ISO setting when the clip was shot. Now I understand with different grades, certain settings aren't changed by L&T, but ISO is not one listed in the Red FCS White Paper.

OK, sorry, I thought you are concerned about getting a look from RA into FCP. A look made in camera is still a problem, I admit.
