Taken RAW at ISO 25,600 on the 5D Mark II... Not too shabby!

Second pic is 100% crop.

Jim, will Monstro be able to hang? :weight_lift:

note: (I did not shoot these pics.)

is 25,600 like night vision? what would it look like at 500?

In Japan recently and absolutely no way to even get a sniff of one of these puppies. The pre pre orders are sold out, the first run of cameras, country wide, are sold out, waiting list as long as a penny thats being fought over by two scotsmen........

Cheers,
Mark.

Just to be clear, I did not shoot this! Sorry. I should have said that I guess.

No, this is the only RAW super-high-ISO shot I have seen so far.

Cool beans Tom, this is going to make your job quite interesting. Can't wait to see what you get with this. I will pick one up later next year when all the rush has died down.

Be well,
Cheers,
Mark.

Dope, Tom.
That test vid is wild!

Monstro will certainly compete...but it's the Scarlet's 2/3" price bracket right? Hm.

When I asked Jim if it would be able to hang, I was talking strictly ISO/ASA in Monstro.

I think with the FF sensor and people wanting to stop down to control DOF, increased sensitivity in Monstro would be really helpful, in more ways than one.

So getting wide DNR and high ISO/ASA (low noise) is two ultimate goals of sensors (even film).

But what is color fidelity called? When I wanted to capture the most subtle changes and differences in colors (especially in the same color range), I'd go for the lowest ASA possible. I heard the equivalent in digital is bit depth? I know 12 is better then 10, etc.

The monstro is 16 bits and I'm cautiously excited what that means in color fidelity.

I'm not sure if "color fidelity" is something that people really notice. Our vision sucks at discriminating between hues if the visual angle is small. Go further away from your TV and you will be less able to tell whether flesh tones look 'right' or not.

2- There is another kind of color fidelity which can be measured by metamerism index. But nobody cares about it. The Sony F828 would likely score high here since it uses a RGBE color filter array. Conversely, the Leica M8 would score extremely poorly due to infrared sensitivity. Sensitivity to infrared is bad because humans aren't sensitive to it... this is a color accuracy that's most noticeable.

Yes, I understand that there are limitations to the eye, especially with color, so that's why jpg can be so compressed because it throws out color info.

But it's still at a point that I can look at a scene and look at a digital and film image and see more color with my eyes then the camera captured. I would like to record all the color that's there and then choose what I want to throw out. Even with film, if I shoot to high of an ISO, I lose color that my eye can see in the actual scene.
