Those are as noisy as 747-400 at take off.

If we would get a half of that (Boeing Jumbo) noise at ISO 6400 with Mystrium-X then for sure RED will be a winner over the competition.

But we still do not know anything about that.

It is a real wish only...

In motion this would be very noisy footage. Having real-world and noise-free 800 ASA plus 10 stops of usable DR would be a big improvement. I think this is doable for Epic-X.

Hans

These DS3 samples are all about that to just "PUSH" RED Team to finally "squeeze" ISO 800 with 10 to 11 stops of usable DR (exposure latitude) from Mysterum- X.

I can feel that if M-X is not done with that specs we will not see any Epic/Scarlet soon.

All would be cleared at 30th of the month anyway.

Seurat painted noisy images too. We could just call it digital pointillism. A whole new art form!:biggrinjester:

I gotta say, for ISO 12,800 I consider this pretty freakin' clean. Now if this were ISO 800 I'd expect it to be much cleaner, which I assume this camera is.

Some of those might actually work as 4K moving images. Definitely at 1080p.

I'm sorry but that is stunning for ISO12800. I fully agree with Tom, some might work at 4K like the boxer (not the Yak though) and I'm sure they'd all be acceptable at 1080p.

I'm loathe to go above 640-800 on my D90 with a 50mm 1.4 Nikkor. Complaining about 12800 not being crystal clean is just...spoilt. For me at least :)

They all look very misty. In motion they would look ALIVE. But for 12,800 that's pretty insane.

The 720p motion clip of those nature shots looks pretty good. It is very misty. Very difficult to shoot video in those conditions without getting banding artifacts in the fog. the Nikon seems to handle the subtle greyscale differences very well.

Have you watched the accompanying "video"? the images Sanjin posted are from stills mode and not frame grabs.

Yes I did, on a good CRT. I think the mjpeg is better for greyscale than the H.264 mpeg of the Canon's.

I actually like the look of the noise generated by this sensor... it almost looks like film grain.. not like the usual digital noise.. perhaps cause the noise looks mono-chromatic to my eyes..

it certainly has an interesting feel. Stunning.

I think the 12,800 ISO shots still have too much noise (and noise reduction applied).

The boxer shot, however, is definitely amazing. It looks like lightly grained film. That's a keeper to show off.
