Hi!
I just bought this lens (Iscorama Pre-36) or at least I thought I did. I paid 3000 USD for it. The seller told me it was the pre-36 and sent the following pictures that I've attached. I asked about the black front ring and the answer was:
"Apparently some of the text was scratched by a previous owner who made an aesthetic decision to have the ring restored and the remaining text painted over. As you can see from the images this looks quite professional and does not affect the optics at all."
"The lens is optically perfect and non multicoated so it will produce great flares."
The lens came with a genuine ISCO rear end cap, generic 72mm lens cap, canon eos adapter and diopters.
I started to notice that I couldn't stretch the pictures from my Canon 5d MKIII with 1.5x without them looking too wide. I then tried with 1.33x and it looked perfect. I did a quick search on google and found this on Wiki:
There are unsubstantiated reports that ISCO produced a batch of Iscorama 36s with a 1.33x horizontal stretch ratio.
Iscorama 36s can be easily differentiated from the anamorphic adapter component of the original Iscorama by examining the text on the front lock ring - a true Iscorama 36 will have the following text silk-screened in this area: ISCORAMA - ANAMORPHOT 1,5× - 36.
This fits the description right on... Have I bought a version called 36s ??? Does anyone know about this version. It doesn't have a serial number on the front ring or not even the text "ANAMORPHIC 1,5x - 36".
Please help me find an answer to this. I feel very fooled spending all this money on something that isn't what it's supposed to be.
