  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Is this what the 19mm base looks like?

Since the element technica's ARRI 19mm base is still out of stock on RED store, I found one on Ebay and just received it. However, what came to me doesn't look like the one listed on the RED store. Please let me know if I received the right product. It works fine, but I don't want to end up with a fake product...

No dude. What you have right there is the newest ARRI Element Technica baseplate. You are cutting edge. I didn't even know they were selling these yet.

Heh. You may actually want to contact ET about this one. Somehow, I don't think that's a final version of the combo plate, but a prototype. They may want it back. You may want to swap it for a final shipping version or just a 19mm plate.

Thanks for the quick reply! Well, I guess I will wait and see if this is a legitimate product. I didn't know they were even making a updated version.
I'm lucky that I got this version because I wanted to use the rods in the back as well.

In any case, I wish they would have told us that they are coming with an updated version because if they did, I would have waited for it to be on sale on the RED store... I waited almost 4 months for this.

Note that in one pic it's shown mounted on a Red One, whose serial number is showing.

I love my ET Arri 19mm base, but this looks even better! Damn . . . .

How did that puppy get on eBay?

Yes, this plate is designed with all future cameras in mind, and it is very cool. I kinda miss the rosette, but I know most people don't use it.

Damn, at first glance, I though they'd integrated some quick release into it but alas.......

Maybe Red and ET can get together to put corresponding marking on their plate/camera to ensure plates are not aligned at a slight angle, putting out mattebox/lens alignment out.

Never had this issue with ET plates; used to have it all the time with ARRI plates as they only have one screw - however as long as the 'fin' at the rear of the bridgeplate is lined up with the base of the body you're set.

Most of the time mattebox alignment issues are because of saggy donuts.

The bridgeplates use a pair of bolts and/or locator pin to ensure correct alignment.

And if you have saggy donuts you're using too much milk.

Uh... You can run rods out of the back of the current ET plates too.

Stephen and Hector are always working on new stuff. They must be getting close on these plates because this one is anodized and etched with their logo. Someone probably swiped it from ET at their open house event a week or so back. Care to say who you bought it from?

Seriously, you should call them or send them an email. They would be cool about it, I'm sure. I'm sure Stephen will find this thread eventually, if he doesn't know about it already. Oh, and it looks like they already have your number, Mr. 4370. :shiftyph34r:

Well Done Jeff...hahahhaha

I don't have saggy donuts!!
markings would be a cheap/nice to have particularly with longer lenses as my MB20 only has 3mm play.

I got the product from AuctionSetup.com.
They sell couple of other ET products as well. I wrote to them and they replied that they were sorry about the confusion, but the product seems legitimate.

I thought the original 19mm baseplates doesn't recommend rear rod usage but whatever...LOL

As far as my serial number goes, what's the big deal? :bleh:

Rowland didn't do anything wrong and it is not stolen gear. The distributor made a mistake in selling a product that was not supposed to be for sale just yet.

I got the product from AuctionSetup.com.

AuctionSetup.com is an ebay listing company. People bring their stuff to these guys and AuctionSetup puts it online, manages the sale, ships the product, etc.. They would honestly have no way of knowing if something like this were legit or not. Any ET stuff they are selling has been brought to them by their customers to be sold.

Yeah, some people get that impression because the rod sleeves are located at the front of the plate. But so is the case with most other Arri plates. People run longer rods out to the rear all the time, have been doing so for decades.

As far as my serial number goes, what's the big deal? :bleh:

Now ET can find out who you are if they want their stolen plate back.

Really, this isn't that big of deal. At least if they're looking for a missing base plate, this one is now accounted for. Mostly I was just saying you should contact them. This may in fact not be the final shipping version of the baseplate. it is a prototype or demo piece.

The New ET Hybrid Bridge Plate

The New ET Hybrid Bridge Plate

Well it seems like the cat is out of the bag with our new Hybrid Bridge Plate. Rowland, don’t worry, you don’t have a stolen bridge plate. It was just sold a little prior to the official release of the product by accident.

Now, on to the new Hybrid Bridge Plate. We have now discontinued our old bridge plate design for the Red in favor of the new Hybrid design. The Hybrid is convertible between 15mm studio, 19mm studio, 15mm lightweight, and 5/8’’ Panavision support. All with the same bridge plate. To switch rod standards, you simply remove the clamps on either end of the bridge plate and replace them with whatever rod standard you need. The top of the bridge plate also has 3 sets of holes. One set is for 15mm studio, one is for 19mm studio, and the third can be used with Arri cameras (with a 2.5mm shim plate).

The new Hybrid will be available from Red or directly from Element Technica. It will be $900 for single format (15mm studio or 19mm studio) or $1,200 for dual format (15mm studio and 19mm studio). The lightweight 15mm clamps will cost $275 and fit onto the front of the 15mm or 19mm studio clamps.

We will be posting a lot of images soon with detailed explanation about how to switch the clamps, as well as an email blast to everyone on our email list. They will be for sale on our website soon as well.

Here is a photo of the Hybrid with 19mm clamps installed.
