  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Is there something similar to Subst on Mac?

I put the FCPX library on the internal harddrive so that I can edit without an extarnal harddrive.
Now since the path will be something like users/Andreas/Movie/ I get into problems when I move it to another computer that has users/PersonB/Movie

On a PC I would just write a subst command so that the movie folder would always be for example Z, but how can you do something similar to that on the MAC?
Maybe using Alias in some way?

Any ideas would save me some relinking!

i guess the easiest would be to simply not put the library in your user folder in the first place?

How does that actually work? Should I put them in the sharwd folder. How does it work with security if someone steals the computer? Can they get access to the files as a guest?

i would put the library directly on the HD/SSD that way you avoid the user/home folder completely, the log-in (safety) is still required, back ups and such still work as always other users can still access over network.....
there is really no wrong place to put it

Code:
sudo ln -s /Users/Andreas/Movie /Volumes/Movie
using terminal to move a file? why? afaik you can just move an existing library and reconnect in fcpx....or create a new library (in fcpx) and move existing events/projects into the new library...if you go that way you have to make sure you create a new event in your old library before moving you last (existing) event over....a library can't be empty...

Yes, that sounds great Elliott will try. Now I just put it outside the users and it seems to work pretty well.
The reason I don't want to relink is that it takes some time, and I want to keep sending the newest version of the library to our other users quite often when its being updated.

Thanks!
/Andreas
