  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Is there ever going to be classic Avid finishing with Red footage?

There will be a post once out. I can't say exactly when though.

Michael

As I have been working with the Red files, long time ago, I had the pleasure to see an evolution in Avid to have an easy workflow. A point with which I had a problem with the director is that he could see that with FCP via color, he could get the color correction on the 2k files at a low cost since FCP studio is cheaper than Avid, that color is a more complete software and with Avid, the color correction is very simple, only primary colors and no way to have masks and to have the kind of same results, to his eyes. We had to go to DS which cost much more since it is an other station and he has to go to a post house. It is why I wonder why, as was saying someone in this forum, why FCP and Adobe can do it and not Avid. To have an MC which can handle r3d and which color correction could be primary and secondary with possibilties of masking for as expensive as FCP, I think it would be a revolution. I am an avid editor and recommand only avid because the interface is simple and square, but when price is concern, I can't argue, it is more expensive than other excellent tools...

michael,

if someone wants to cut offline in DNxHD 36 with subclips synced to location sound, then simply replace the DNxHD 36 video files with DNxHD 175 files, how is this done with Media Composer? Are the random names generated when converting to MXF on import into AVID a problem for a relink? Can you let me know how this is commonly, and most efficiently, done?

If I had a folder with all footage transferred from .r3d into DNxHD 36, and another folder with ALL the footage from .r3d processed into DNxHD 175, would that help?

I responded in a private email thread, but for others..

As long as the both sets of media have same tape name and timecode, you:

Put the sequence in the same bin as all the DnxHD 175 master clips
Hilight sequence and all master clips
Relink based on tape and timecode to selected.

Thanks for sharing Michael :)

An AAF/AFE conform at 2K+ can be done with Avid DS which has a very rich conform of effects, layers, titles, etc. A reconform in MC/Symphony for HD mastering is what I am referring to that I cannot speak to at this time.

Michael

Add a control panel to the DS and you might have something there.

Or you guys could open up your AAFs so that more necessary conform data comes across into the Pablo, Baselight, etc. At least the basic DVEs would be a great start...

Actually, you should do that regardless of what the DS is capable of.

What? "Mum's the word" on that one too? :biggrinjester:
