  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Is there a piece of software specifically for consolidating files onto a single drive

Here's my situation;
I'm dealing with multiple drives that all pertain to the same (old) project. There's a raw footage drive, a master project drive, two backup drives, and a backup drive of footage that was on a shared media server. Some of these drives have random project files, some have transcodes, some of the raw footage is backed up in multiple places and some is only on one drive.

Is there a piece of software that will analyze the files structure of each drive, determine what data is redundant and what isn't, and migrate/verify everything to a new drive?

Right now I'm using goodsync in conjunction with shotput pro to do my best to make sure I've got all my ducks in a row, but there's got to be a simpler way. Anyone have any advice?

Thanks for you help!

To me, this boils down to just staying organized and keeping track of everything. I don't know a way to do this beyond making notes and having a very strict file/directory structure. Great post supervisors generally come up with a "master plan" with a memo for assistant editors and D.I.T.'s to follow so that duplicate files on the same drives never happen.
