I just bought a used original Red EVF to go with the Red-One we bought a few months ago. The camera did not come with a viewfinder then, because the BOMB was back-ordered, and I've decided I'd rather have the original EVF anyway.

The viewfinder is in good shape, but there is something that confuses me. Since I am a first time Red owner, I'm still learning about the camera, etc. Is there supposed to be some kind of mounting plate or whatever, with the 1/4" threaded hole that attaches to the 4 tiny holes in the EVF? There must be something, because how else do you connect it to a articulating arm or 3rd party mount, or whatever ?

If there is a plate (?) that I need, what exactly is it called, does Red still sell them, what do they cost, and where can I get one.

I've already bought a Zacuto Red EVF Mount, but there is no way to attach it as it is to the viewfinder.

I can't very well use the EVF without a way to mount it to the camera.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

There are several and they run the gamut of prices from cheap to very expensive. Element Technica sells an excellent one and Cavision sells a budget one that actually works pretty good. I have tried putting the view finder on a RED articulating arm but I find the viewfinder is a little heavy for this.

But, HOW can you put it on an arm when there are just 4 tiny holes in the viewfinder ?? Doesn't make sense to me. Something is missing. What ?????????????

Hi George. I don't have an EVF in front of me, but I think the plate that the RED ARM or what have you screws into might be missing on your EVF. If you post a picture we will be able to tell you right away.

I think that's your problem. Red doesn't list the mounting plate as a standalone item, but I'm sure if you contact them they can sort one for you.

Yup, sounds like that's it alright. See the attachments. The 4 small threaded holes are obvious. And, that is ALL that came with the viewfinder.

Problem is, where do I get a mounting plate?

Thanks.

Start with whoever you got your EVF from and see if they still have it. Most likely they had the EVF mounted with the ET EVF mount, which requires removal of the original RED piece that goes there. Failing that, contact RED, they may be able to offer a replacement.

If you're up for buying the ET EVF mount (highly recommended), it will come with everything you need. You can always get a piece of 1/4" to 3/8" aluminum and drill 4 appropriate sized mounting holes and tap whatever other mounting holes you may need.

George,

I'm also in northern california and I have the plate you need. I don't need it as I use the ET mount. You can have it. PM me.

Peter

Yeah, sorry it does look like your missing the mount but Peter ha taken care of that.
