  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Is there a general FAQ anywhere for 4K workflow?

I have not had the opportunity to play with ANY red footage yet, and would love a quick breakdown on the "what they are", "where to use each one" and "why choose one over the other" of:
-redcine,
-red alert
-red rushes, etc...

Once my camera is in hand, I am trying to understand the easiest way to generate Mac friendly, FCP editable files from my 4K red captures, whether they be image sequences or Quicktime movies...

(While I expect to acquire in 4K, I will most likely be downsizing and then finishing in 1080P, and I would be cool with a Pro Res Pipe, at least until I get my sea legs under me...)

Is there a link anyone could reccommend, or is anybody feeling "mentorly"?

Thanks so much in advance,
-CK

Agreed that it would be nice if there was a site or a doc that simply illustrated workflow options.

Reduser certainly has all the answers but there's a lot of sifting involved.

I generally agree. I'm almost to the stage where I'd love to test out taking RAW information and processing it to see if my systems (field and home) have any snags trying to process it before I actually get my hands on a RED camera.

Good for us indy filmmakers starting out that want to get a workflow together before we jump in 20k.

People consistently complain about the ineffective search function and that all the information is scattered.

Welcome to REDUSER!

I really wish that there was an "archive" of "best of". Like when a thread really explores a topic well...publish it in a directory for easy access.

That said...as things are constantly changing...that, too might be ineffective.

Search for some of BigT's posts. He has some really simple FCP 1080P sloutions.

search with google. it usually finds many reduser posts better than the actual reduser search feature.

I'm not being a smartass here. But what I find works best for me in discovering how things work and what works better then what is by actually doing it. I'm not ultra familiar with a place that you could do this but if you could find some R3D files to play with in each of the programs you've specified or would like to see results from then I would try it myself.

I know this isn't always ideal because you'd like to see results of shots and ideas you've had, but Im sure there is somewhere out there that you could grab R3D's and play with them .

As far as FCP and the RED, we always use 720p Apple Pro Res (HQ) and have never had an issue. We also never have the need to go to 1080 for our projects currently.

At our office, we've used pretty much all the red apps for processing. personally, although it's slow, i like redcine, but thats just me.
