  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Is there a CART for hauling equipment IN THE FIELD ??

Magliners (http://www.filmtools.com/magliners2.html) and the aforementioned Rubbermaids are what you'll find on pretty much every feature film shoot's camera truck as general purpose camera carts.

have you checked out what backstage carts has to offer? based out of los angeles.

i'm also getting rid of this, not a lot of space but with the 10" wheels it will ride over everything.

For hauling equipment, carts with shelves are over rated imo. I have used lots of different carts for different purposes. but for just moving equipment around I'd add a second vote for the filmtools modded magliner http://www.filmtools.com/geminisenior.html.

You can always add shelves later if you'd like, and it doubles as a good two wheeler as well.

YOu can also get an Innovative Scout. Call Pat Bluett at Innovative! He's awesome. His carts are awesome! You'll love it!

I have used the RocknRoller R12 for some time. It folds nicely to get to the location. Expands to the size required that day. No air in the wheels to leak out yet runs as if they did. Very cheep all things considered just not in respect to the build quality. It has worked really well for me however, I have yet to take it over much rough terrain.

Honestly, save for an Inovativ cart, it will last you for life. And if this is a career you plan to stick with, it's definitely worth the investment. Two strong dudes could push it up anything with semi-stable terrain, (grassy hills, no problem, gravel hills, not bad, just not rocky terrain and clearance of more than 8". If you want off-road, use a portable Laptop carry solution, unless you can't carry it, do as the others suggested and get one of those garden-carts with two giant wheels. That will help on the "rockier" terrain....

Folding beach carts are SOP here in NYC...

This would be perfect for you. we used tons of these in the forests of Vancouver, hauling around Epic/3D packages… We did have a lot of other carts but these were really helpful. And cheap.

I use a small chinese blue garden cart and canvas "camping chair" bags to put loose stuff in with the tripod. The carts have mesh floors which are handy to tie through. The wheels throw water drops up through the floor. If they get rained on they rust pretty quickly as the steel has not been primed. If I was routinely going over rough ground with one I would add another axle in the centre so it will bridge deep ruts without getting caught, ie., a six-wheeler. They have a narrow track so easy to capsize on cross-slopes.

We got us an electric dolly. Its an electric quad with a metal top deck.
It reaches about 35 km an hour, is used for shooting but is also used for hauling material around.

It drives through mud and high grass without any problems.

Bad picture... but you get the idea. Works like a charm. Ow, drives about 5 houres before its empty.
