I was just looking over last night's Q&A and just wanted to clarify one line of questions. Is the Scarlet FF35 DSMC still on the roadmap? Jim's response pointed to a 2011 release. Did I read into that correctly? Can we expect a FF35 Scarlet in 2011?

Yes.

There is a persistent rumor where some people took one of Jim's statements out of context to mean that there would be no FF35 Scarlet. But what Jim was saying at the time, a few months ago, was that there would be no FF35 Scarlet based on Mysterium-X.

As of right now, FF35 sensors will be Monstro and these cameras are targeted for next year. There should be both Scarlet and Epic forms with that sensor. All things subject to change and all that, but the FF35 Scarlet is probably the most highly anticipated Scarlet as it will be the one that really competes for the stills market with other full frame cameras.

Not to be pessimistic, but I wouldn't expect Scarlet FF35 next year.

Judging from the speed things are going, I wouldn't expect an EPIC FF35 next year either.

What would be the point of releasing them so soon anyway?

I think RED should give some time to allow for EPIC S35, Scarlet 2/3, Scarlet S35 to become industry standards, so that people to know them inside out before introducing new cameras.

Scarlet FF35 will probably be a 2012 or even 2013 camera.

Of course the DSLRs suddenly put some pressure on everyone (including RED) to come out with a Full Frame sensor camera ASAP, but I think Scarlet S35 will be more than enough for a long time.

The only reason why I want a Scarlet FF5 today would be to use wide angle still lenses and retain the exact field of view intented.

I think they will bring the Monstro models to market absolutely as soon as they can get them finished. Nobody at this point knows the time frame for that with any certainty.
There will be healthy markets for all of these cameras.

Not wishing to stir things here, or be overly pessimistic.....I'd like an FF35 Scarlet too.....but I still don't recall Jim or anyone else from RED using the terms 'Scarlet' and 'FF35' together in the Q&A session, although they did confirm that FF35 Monstro is still in the roadmap for next year.

Yes..it seems soon for the FF's. But if the S35 Epic and Scarlet fixed
make it out sometime this year...then seems possible to get
the FF versions out a year later..as cameras are the same they'd
just have a larger sensor.

Seems like Red wants to get these cameras out soon since they've
been talked about for so long...this way be able to go all out
on Monstro...which will be very exciting and fun for them to develop.

Gentlemen and Ladies,

RED is a very serious about Photography and as such the 35mm format is essential. They will produce one! In all likelihood they will produce the Scarlet as well as the EPIC. Let me rephrase. To be competitive with Pro DSLR's they will have to produce a FF sensor camera that is priced somewhere right around where FF35 Scarlet was pegged for. That's certainly a premium over the high end canon and nikons but they wont be shooting 72fps raw in burst mode any time soon, certainly not at full resolution. RED can demand that premium because the DSMC performance envelope is head and shoulders above a "standard" PRO DSLR. However, RED wouldn't really be competing against Pro DSLR's if the most affordable FF camera is about $35K.

I'd bet a pretty penny that RED will compete in the FF market.

My 2¢

Jim said last night that he's seen slice samples from the Monstro sensor (and that it looks great). I would think that a year is way more than they'll need to bring these FF35 cameras to market. Aside from the sensor, they'll be pretty much the same as the S35 cameras slated to hit the streets before Christmas. I would expect the first FF35 Red before mid-year with the alternative a couple of months after that. Question is, Epic or Scarlet first?

Sorry Nick but Jim didn't actually say 'FF35 Scarlet' did he.....

I've no doubt that RED will bring FF35 to market successfully, my point relates to the debate (here and reportedly within RED too http://reduser.net/forum/showpost.php?p=554710&postcount=15) over whether that will be in Epic only or whether Scarlet will also get an invite to the FF35 party.
My glass is always half-full so I hope and believe that it will (must) happen.

FF35 Scarlet makes a lot of market sense to appeal to high end still shooters. The difference between $10k-$12k for a Scarlet brain VS more like $35k for the Epic version is pretty significant. I think they will build both at some point.
