I see RED One with a bunch of accessories selling like it's a fire sale over in the sale forum. Is the RED One just so overshadowed now by the Epic and Scarlet that it's outdated and not an item worth being sought after anymore? Do people choose to shoot with the R1 still and are perfectly happy and not disappointed they aren't shooting with the Epic?

No, as in, no.

;)

It has an MX chip and shoots 120fps at 2k, that doesn't sound very outdated to me.

The camera itself is perfectly valid and out there shooting in great numbers. For someone looking to own and operate an non-warrantied Red One has to be cheap to compete with a Scarlet, despite the numerous benefits R1 still has.

Accessories for it however outnumber working cameras due to the trade in stages, so in many cases the simplest acc's can't even be given away.

As a B-cam it is very common even on multi-million (OK, one-to-five million) feature sets. It is our B-cam.

For long takes it does not have any of Epic's heat issues. We were going to sell ours but decided 'no, let's keep it'.

Is The Social Network invalid?

It's still a great camera. It has some weaknesses, but 4 audio inputs and 2 Red monitor outputs isn't one of them. The image quality will still be more than ample for many years to come.

Red One M and Red One MX have shot and still shooting exceptionally good looking pictures all around the world. Yes, there'll be no Dragon upgrade for it, but the image out of the camera still looks way better in comparison to some veeery expensive video cameras of the recent past, that only capable of 1080p output.

I still love the image, the camera is very relevant, but when you get used to the Epic and it's touch screen it's hard to go back to the joy stick of the R1. The Epic is just so much more enjoyable to use. But the R1 images are still great.

Strangely the demand for the RED One is now only increased in the general market that is now more than aware of what RED is. I have a RED One M that is renting out now more than ever. The only drawback is not having a easy canon mount like the Scarlet/epic... but birger mount RED Ones are selling for cheap.

Just shot a concert with a Red One MX and 2 Epics. We matched settings on the three cameras and the results look great.

If anyone is looking to give away accessories for Red One, I'll take them. :-)
