With Red making new lenses for full frame format, are the Red Pro Primes going to go down in price, and any guess on how much if they do?

I doubt the RPP price will drop anytime soon. Even after RED releases lenses that cover full frame. Those are a different style of electronic/smart lenses for hybrid cine/stills use. My hope is that they will be competitively priced with the RPP's or possibly a bit cheaper to compete with with Nikon and Canon glass. However, with their features, they will most certainly be more usable than current Nikon and Canon glass within a DSMC application.

I wouldn't expect Red to discontinue them, and there doesn't appear to be a superior competitor at a lower price point, so what market forces do you suppose would drive the price of RPP's down?

I think the only time you'd see a price drop is if RED makes a newer, replacement lens for any of the primes and they're just liquidating inventory - like what we saw with the 18-50 lens when they were about to release the 17-50 zoom.

I would think the RPPs stay where they are the full frames cost a bit more. If the set is under $30k it would still be the best game in town.

The fact that the RPPs are in the $20k-$24k point is just nuts! Great for us though!

You do Jim? I would expect the prices to be more in line with Canon L and Nikon lenses, since those will be the major competition. Perhaps these lenses will be unique and significantly different from the competition as they will be the first hybrid use lenses available?

I guess if they nail the auto focus, and eliminate the breathing they will have something unique. What else would you hope for?

Do you think they will be big like the RPP'snmore the size and weight of other still lenses or somwhere in between? The more they intend to compete with still lenses the lighter they will need to be.

no way the price will drop...but they can drop on the used market when following would happen:

1.newer and lighter RPPs would become available for the same price
2.HS RPPs are becoming reality under 25k-30k

With Obama printing Trillions of dollars each year of counterfeit money .... expect prices on everything to triple.

Where's the gold?

Where's the gold?

Money hasn't been backed by anything (gold) since the '70's. If that is what you call counterfeit, then every country in the world is printing counterfeit money.
And where did the gold go? Federal Reserve, that's as as much federal as Federal Express stole it from the nation if front of their very eyes...in broad daylight. President Jackson warned the public about this in the 1800's
Sorry, couldn't help it, RANT OVER!!!!:emote_couch:

To be fair, George printed at least a trillion for the unfunded Iraq War plus a trillion or so for the bank/insurance bailout, plus committing us to another trillion or two over the next 50 years taking care of wounded Vets - before Obama ever took office.

Plus probably a trillion in lost business in 2008-9 (just analyze your own business) - which also means lost taxes on income) due to the collapse (which again Obama couldn't do anything about. Not to mention a couple trillion in lost business due to 9/11 that probably could have been avoided if George hadn't been asleep at the wheel (after being warned of the seriousness of the threat by Clinton, Richard Clarke, Rudman and Gary Hart, the CIA, FBI, etc.) and maybe listened to the FBI agent in Minneapolis that warned that they had a terror suspect that seemed to be training to "fly an airliner into the World Trade Center" and simply warned pilots that hijackings were possibly to use their aircraft as suicide weapons instead of the normal "take us to cuba or whatever" of previous hijackings. The effectiveness of that simple warning was proven in the 4th plane on 9/11 and all subsequent attempts, where the passengers took over and thwarted the terrorists. It's hard to find a previous president that was handed such a s**t sandwich by his predecessor - probably not even FDR.

- rant over -

But your basic point is correct - inflation is inevitable. (Even if for quite awhile prices don't rise due to overall deterioration of the economy.)

someone should start a new message board specifically for red users who want to talk about politics.

Sometimes you need a little diversion. I blew my eardrum on my last job so I can't shoot for awhile.
