Is the extra compression gained from the mini mags worth the upgrade?

1.8 Side module = ~$350
1.8 512gb = $1000

Mini Side Module = ~$1000
512gb mini = ~$1900

I checked the compression ratios for the epic dragon and you only gain 2 extra levels. I plan on shooting some 60fps at 6k. Will i notice the difference? Does anyone have test of shots at different compressions?

I contemplated a mini-mag upgrade for my Scarlet Dragon and determined there really was no benefit since the data rate of the camera isn't high enough. Of course, the Epic has a higher data rate and there is a small benefit but I'd be the first to concur that it doesn't seem like you get much for the money.

The only argument I'd make for an upgrade is the idea of standardizing your recording media if you are also shooting DSMC2 cameras. For myself, I even rejected that as not being worth the money.

It depends on where you are delivering content too? If you are delivering theatrically, it's worth the upgrade, if you are doing pretty much anything else it probably isn't worth the extra money.

.R3D is the best compression there is, but I really hope DSMC3 gets an NVMe interface.
