  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Is the Adobe workflow all its cracked up to be?

I mentioned this in another thread, but maybe it will be of some use here as well. My experience working with R3D files in Premiere and After effects has been a pretty good one. After effects won't let me render at all, but if I bring in an after effects sequence to premiere I can render with no problems. Here is my workflow.
R3D import to Premiere
Edit in premiere at 512 or 1K
Import premiere project into AE for clip by clip color correction
Use dynamic link to import AE timeline back into Premiere
Render using Premiere and Adobe Media encoder

So far, other than a slow render wait (need to upgrade computer soon) havn't had any real issues.
I have also found that instead of rendering file directly to h264 or wmv or FLV that it is better to go to an uncompressed codec or lossless codec such as jpg2000. This gives me an uncompressed master that I can then render to whatever codec later down the line, and does not usually result in any rendering issues.

After effects has its own more powerful render engine. You can send files from after effects to adobe media encoder but its usually not recommended to go from Any HD format to a super low formant like flvs. you need to first render to SD, then send that to media encoder or compressor or whatever app you have. Its not Adobe compression is an art and science. its very processor intensive to squeeze an ultra HD raster codec to a super light vector codec like FLV.
