Is RED just an American camera?

I am pretty surprised by this. As I am preparing myself to attend BVE 2013 at the EdExcel arena in London (26-28 Feb), the most important event for broadcasters and the film industry in London, where pretty much anyone who is any one in the camera business is represented there, to my astonishment RED isn't there! Why? RED Europe is based in London.

Maybe I am missing a trick here, so I am grateful if anyone at RED can shed any light on this? For one I was really looking forward to meeting team RED in London without having to go up to Pinewood Studios. I of course love my Scarlet camera and was looking forward to meeting some of my pals in the business there and show them how great RED really is.

Thanks,
Antonio

Ted might be there... Roaming around, talking to folks... I think he usually does that kind of stuff.

That's nice to know. I liked it when he did that rucksack thing, prior to the Scarlet announcement. He got the camera out and said 'look how portable it all is'. I wish I could get mine out of the bag and just shoot... ;-)

Maybe he has his rucksack with some new gear in there! I'll keep an eye out for him.

I find the BSC show has the more interesting gear. Check that one out. Too many wedding dudes and wannabes at the BVE...

Maybe, the door is open to members of the general public. But everyone is there. All the brands. It's a very important event.

We are a very small company... we are spending our money right now on development. In case you haven't noticed, we sell the best camera in the smallest package for the least amount of money. We give our "show" money to our customers.

Thanks Jim! I would much rather have it this way, than to pay for a more expensive camera, because the marketing costs increased the price.

The size of a company really can't be defined by the number of people it employs, so in that regard I don't think RED is a small company ;-)

Agreed Jim and I have noticed as I too have decided to invest my money on RED. It would just be so nice to have a chance to chat in person with you guys. But of course if the RED team is hosting a get together in Pinewood at the BSC show in March, I would love to come along.

Great stuff!

There will be a 4k and 3D demo at BVE. I think it is by Sony.

I was also surprised not to see Red having anything to do with that.

What is the BSC show? I've never heard of it.
EDIT: Oh, the BSC Expo. Has anyone ever been to it?

No, never been to it. And you've just hit it on the head there with the 4K seminars. That's another reason why I thought RED was going to be there. And Sony somehow presenting themselves as the authorities on 4K, when they are really the new kids on the block.
