  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Is quick cut for TV (4k to 1080) possible?

Isn't 4K RAW using REDCODE only 27 MB per second? If so, seems like recording that is more practical than recording uncompressed HD.

I'm very much in the mind set of shooting @ 4k raw REDCODE but to make the camera viable for some applications fast editing turn-around is required. At the moment 4k RECODE raw images require lengthy processing times which can limit the cameras possible applications the HD-SDI option would provide a useful alternative when a quick edit is required. Maybe REDCINE and the release of codecs for the various editing systems out there will change all this.

Having said that by playing back 4k REDCODE images via HD-SDI how will image colour be effected? (Does HD-SDI out debayer? Will this need a LUT to give correct colour? etc etc)

I know you'd lose metadata.. but for a very quick prorez would the following not be possible ?

Put each redcode raw file from a single cf onto a timeline in fcp 2k

Playout straight cuts at 1920x1080 sdi from say a blackmagic

Another macpro with a AJA io hd or another card with fcp set to capture prores hq.

Select reels, then name them. cut into shots.. takes etc..

edit..

kinda realtime prores encoding..?? just a though.. not sure if the card would crop the 2k etc though..

Why not just convert via Compressor? Works really well with the R3D QT's, we've delivered DVCProHD & ProRes QT's this way with good success.
