Hey Guys

Is it wrong time to buy an Epic now?
Should I wait until they open the order for the Epic with Dragon sensor ?

Thanks
Bader

Do you need 6K, jump in DR or better ISO performance (I guess these are coming) and are these features worth 6000$ for your? If the answer is no and you need EPIC now, then buy one. Bad time to buy EPIC was few months ago before the prices dropped.

Tough call, but REDs seliverytimes can be preventive. If you need a cam now, now is the time to buy.

Consider that the Epic-M owners probably will get the chance to upgrade first and the unknown specs and price of the new (Epic???) Dragon which will be rolled out at thee same time, I wouldn't worry to much of the things we don't know and rather get it.

If you can wait and rent. Wait and rent.
If you need it now, now's the time...

I expect the Dragon Epic to be more than the current MX´ed one when it´s released, so take that into account.

I just bought one and waiting for it to ship. The wait times have improved and not having a camera over Christmas is no big deal since demand is low over the holidays.

Agree with others. Buy only if you plan/ready to use it.

I think its a great time to buy an Epic. I bought (ordered) mine exactly a year ago, and if I was in the same situation this year, even with the new camera landscape- Sony F5-F55, Canon c500, Canon 1D C- I would do exactly the same. The only thing is that I would be getting it a LOT cheaper and with all major NLE supporting it. The Epic is the "above 4K " camera with the best, proven workflow right now. Every decent post house knows how to work with Red, as well as DOP's and production teams. THis, in my view, is a major plus vs the other 4K cams in the market. And the Epic shoots wonderful High Speed, too. My 2 cents, but I'm obviously biased. Red Epic images speak for themselves. Whant to see some guerrilla style Epic shots, look at my signature. Want to see Cinema grade footage properly lit? Look at Gunleik above, Mark Toia or go to a big screen cinema near you :) You can't go wrong with Red!

If you need to ask a bunch of strangers an opinion if it's time to buy something...then your head is telling you one thing, but your heart is wanting a different answer.

Which you choose to listen to (your head or your heart) is up to you. I believe that you'll only be completely satisfied if both are in agreement.

(My existential 2 cents...)

Ha ha. Very true...

My two cents, respectfully. Yes. It is the wrong time to buy an Epic. Only caveat, if you have a paying job(s) for it right now,
then that is a different scenario.

Dragon will replace all standard Epics, it will be demanded as the new standard.
There are a ton of things you need to research and purchase to work with the Epic. Start learning and purchasing those
things going forward. There are many Epics out there for rental and it's a 100% write-off on your taxes.

Well said.

It's better to listen your head when big sums of money is on the line.
