Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)
I have a general knowledge of a lot of other things but the topics I'm still confused on are lens sizes and how they relate to vignetting in regards to sensor size, and anamorphics
If you are talking about using standard 2X anamorphic lenses to get a 2.40 scope image, the issues are the same for a 2/3" sensor as with a 35mm sensor (or with a Super-16 neg or a 3-perf 35mm neg) IF both are 16:9, in that a 2X squeeze is too much for a 16:9 sensor.
You end up with a 3.56 : 1 image that has to be cropped on the sides back down to 2.40, which is no better than cropping the top & bottom of a spherical 16:9 image to get 2.40.
Otherwise, the only other issue is the crop factor and the availability of short-enough focal lengths in anamorphic to get wide-angle shots on a 2/3" sensor.
Canon makes a 1.33X anamorphic rear adaptor for B4 video lenses to get a 2.40 image squeezed onto a 16:9 2/3" sensor. It's hard to find though and it adds a couple of inches to the lens.
Vignetting is a different problem than field of view -- basically lenses made for smaller sensors project a smaller image and therefore usually vignette when that lens is used on a larger sensor.
We have the same problem at Cinematography.Com -- the rule about using a real first and last name is at the top of the registration page and it's the first rule that a third of the new people ignore.
I suspect half of that third fall into the "I never read instructions" category and the other half fall into the "they can't be serious / I'm not using my real name / the rules don't apply to me / maybe I'll get away with this" category.
Listen, I really do understand the purpose behind it, I know it seemed obvious but I was confused because no other forumn I had been on had enforced this rule. I like it, but I again, it confused me, so I apologize, just next time take the time to ask instead of immediately taking action. I apologize again
It's nothing personal, Brennan. But it's a pain to switch names on accounts and the policy here recently is that all new incoming users not following the policy get booted. Yes, perhaps it's a bit cold and impersonal, but that's the policy that's been adopted. Perhaps the site policy page should note this -- saying those who do not follow the real name policy will have their account locked.
