Is it now possible to revisit the original dream?

Hi,

I just did my semi-annual check of red.com to see if there might be a Red for the rest of us in the works. Moore's law, general advances, learning curves, amortization of fixed costs, and volume buys of components allowing the fulfillment of the original (circa 2010) dream price. With the introduction of the Dragon sensor, it looks like the focus is in the other direction. I'll check back again in 6 months.

Thanks for the gorgeous, technically awesome images your cameras keep bringing to our local Sony 4K movie screens.

Well they'll always update their cameras in order to make them better and that will make them more expensive. However, after the Dragon starts shipping I'm sure you'll be able to pick up at least a used Scarlet at a price that you might find easier to swallow. As it is now I've seen some body only prices going for around 5k recently.. which is only 2k more than the "dream price" You should start buying some accessories and in a few months see if you can snag a cheap body from somebody trying to raise some funds.

There've even been full R1 shooting packages going for $5k.

RED will keep pushing the envelope and they are making cameras for the professional market.
