  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Is anyone else as dissapointed as I am?

Hey all,

I just want to know if anyone else is as dissapointed with the latest Scarlet firmware release as I am. After reading Jarreds "Questions??" thread (the one he started at NAB) I was excited as he announced that the next Scarlet firmware release would be a "monumental" one and include 120 fps. Here is the actually post.

"Yes. In 2 weeks we are releasing a pretty monumental build for Scarlet and Epic... Apart from a bunch of other goodies, additional resolutions will appear... including the high frame rate 1K on scarlet."

I'm really dissapointed that 120 fps was listed as a spec when the camera was announced and still has not been made available. A lot of people are asking for things that were never announced e.g 120fps @ 2k, 24fps @5k, 4k HDRX etc. I'm not asking for any of that, I'm just asking that RED honor their original promises.

I don't mean to pissed anyone off here. I love my camera but I think it's only fair that we get what we paid for so please don't just start throwing abusive posts my way because you don't agree with me.
 
Well, I'm not disappointed at all. The Scarlet is a nice camera and works like a charm.

Firmwares keep on coming at a regular interval and every time fixes and new goodies will be included.

Those frame rates will be included (and the firmware you mention isn't released yet, the 2 weeks haven't even passed since).

And remember, many other brands are not that generous with free upgrades!
 
Once this release is out I am sure everything people want will be in it
 
Its Beta...., guess there is still alot of room before making it a stable release....
 
Chill. The email you got announcing the firmware release was not the release Jarred was talking about. Those emails usually come out a few days after the release is announced here on reduser. In this case, new RCX and firmware was announced in the NAB thread, followed by Jarred's statements in another thread about the NEXT release, followed by you getting the email about the first one. I hope that makes sense. The point is, I think the big release with 120fps is coming in a couple weeks..
 
Sorry have I misunderstood what Jarred meant in that post?

I thought he said that the next Scarlet-x build would include all those "goodies". I only got the email regarding the new firmware yesterday so I just assumed that was the one he was talking about.
 
One of the things I'm not crazy about with Red is that every feature they advertise isn't necessarily available at initial release.

HOWEVER, everyone else is jumping on this bandwagon (FS700 will have 4K SOMEDAY) AND charging for those updates. At least Red provides them as soon as they're ready for free.
 
Ok so I just read Tim's post. If that's the case then my bad. :)

I hope you're right man.

I don't think this beta release is the same release he was discussing in that thread. I was assuming he is talking about the release from V3 to V4, not the incremental V3 build the beta is (3.06)

EDIT: Looks like everyone straightened you out already.

That's what happens when the Cameras capabilities are astronomical.
We want what it will do now, now! WE happily wait for upgrade goodies!
 
I'm very pleased with the auto focus improvement in 3.0.6 beta. So, no, not disappointed at all.
