Is anyone doing a ReadyRig GS group buy?

I've been reading a lot about everyone's experiences with gimbal supports. The Exo, the Runner, EasyRig+Serene, Tiltamax Armor Man, etc. All things considered, I'm ready going to go with the ReadyRig GS unless someone levels serious negatives against it. Does any current owner have insight to share, is anyone else considering the rig?

I rented one and tested it out.

It was pretty fantastic.

I don't know if there's much leverage in getting the price down - it's pretty cheap already.

There was a lot to like about it.

One of my favorite things was the ease in adjusting from Low mode to mid mode to High mode.

best,

Dan

Dan, can u give any more details?
Weight, 4th Axis, running, doorways, adjustability, boom range, straps, build, etc?

Not sure if they need a group buy. It's back ordered for three weeks. I'll give my feedback once mine arrives.

You are probably right, Ned + Dan. I'm just going to put my order in.

So Ned, is this what you sold the Exo for? What did you do with the extra cash?

Rent the Exo or EZ rig / serene until the RR GS arrives. My Exo after final pricing, duties, wire xfer costs, plus hard case/shipping case came out to about 3K. That's about six or seven exo/easy rig /serene rentals. I should have the RR in three weeks hopefully. Paid 2150 for 2nd day air. So that extra 1k may go before it arrives. Let's hope I have some lunch money for the time and hassle. Anyway, I took a chance on one rig and will be taking another. Let's hope this gamble pays. I know one thing for sure. It'll get through a NYC doorway.

I had a long talk on the phone with Allesandro from Ready Rig. He's a cameraman that actually uses his product on gigs (that's why Serene/Pupeteer works). This is what sold me. He talks like one of us and all his priorities in design are operator centric. Not a bit of arrogance and absolutely listens. He took the time out of his day to talk one on one and discuss the needs and demands of the shows I work on. Also, there's some exciting things on the way. They will be making a RR Pro that'll have a more advanced tensioning system, higher capacity, improved vest and telescoping arms. It'll be more pricey but not available until next year.

The last thing that sold me were watching considerable amount of links of it in use. One clip showed how easy and useful it is to use the RR with one arm. Re-adjusting the tension for that is a snap. Getting your rig on and off is also snap and well thought out.

+1 on Alessandro. He's taken countless emails of mine, and responds graciously to my prodding, and hemming and hawing. I hope you can keep the lunch money in the pocket, out here in Hong Kong the conditions for renting gear make buying a nigh on inevitable option. Further to that, I'm putting a lot of faith into Alessandro's product, as return is not really a choice.

The video Guillaume posted sold me on the build quality, specifically in the tension + rod system. I appreciate the laser focus on function of the RRGS. Compared with the other options, which, while impressive, are more akin to engineering porn than an operator centric support solution. I spend enough time on set tweaking and setting up - and the productions here aren't likely to afford me more time. The easy on/off, and single operator functionality is a must have. Oh and if you think NYC doorways are bad...

I'd love to hear more about what's in the pipeline, will the RRGS be upgradeable to the Pro?
Another decent option for that Exo money is that beefed up self balancing two wheel scooter. Anyone have a link to that actually...?

The telescopic arms will be upgradeable on the GS.

Nice explanation video on YouTube. I really like how it just uses simple leverage to increase/decrease the tension.

Strange question: Would it be at all feasible to use this without a gimbal, a la EasyRig? There are a lot of times I am going for a handheld look, since dreamy-floaty-cam isn't actually the best style for every project, but I'd like to have something to take a bit of the weight off if I'm doing a hip-level shot or something. Maybe just using the right rod?

I think I saw a demo where there was a camera platform between the two rods. I think it was a dslr model RR, but you could turn it into a shoulder-ish mount or from the hip like you said, without the gimbal.

Ah, I didn't poke around on the site long enough to see that. I'd prefer to attach to my top handle like the EasyRig or Atlas support. Looks like it has a 30lb limit, so I assume one pole could hold about 15lbs, which wouldn't be too bad to help assist my handheld setup.

As Ned said, they might not be open to a GB if they can't keep up with current demand... BUT I'm definitely considering the ReadyRig GS, and a GB would put me over the top. So, count me as interested please :)

Got a call from Alessandro and he said mine should arrive within the week just around when the hoverboard arrives. Watch out!

Ive had mine for a bit. IT is EXCELLENT. And a really great deal for what they charge.
