  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Is AC power adapter really mandatory for upgrading to v3.0.0?

Yes. Just make sure battery is fully charged and you won't accidentally bump the battery off the battery plate (some Red battery plates aren't as secure as they should be).

Will, Check with your bomb squad but I would not use the old R1 Brick battery charger with power supply to upgrade or plug in to your Epic. I had a little power problem when I did that and now I own a epic power supply because of that little problem.

what problems specifically?

NOT mandatory. You can upgrade using a battery, they just recommend you to use A/C power. If your battery fails then you could have a bricked camera. Use a known good fully charged battery and you should be fine. To me, the odds are greater that the power company will have a transformer blow or somebody kicks the cord out of the wall than a fully charged battery suddenly failing.

Fully agree.

Tried and tested. DC power works fine as does the old R1 power cords. You just need a 2b to 1b power adapter for the smaller power outlet in the epic brain.

Note that the old Red One AC-DC mains power supply was only rated at 100W. The new Epic/Scarlet ones are rated at 150W.

The old ones will work with a minimal camera setup, but may be underpowered if you run multiple accessories/modules.
