  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

is 4k 16x9 stable in build 16?

One is enough to stay on 4K 2:1 for me.

Meaning you've had one of your own problems with it, or read about people having problems with it? I've used it fairly extensively without too much issue. But I tested it and tried to break it, but so far so good.

I can't stress enough that, while this forum is a great resource, there's nothing like doing your own tests. Although each camera should theoretically come off the manufacturing pipeline the same, I think a more tried and true method for making sure that your camera will work with a particular combination of settings is to test it thoroughly with those settings. If it works, it works. At that point, it shouldn't really matter that somebody else can't make it work.

I'm sure you have tested it Tek, so I'm not preaching to you, just want to make sure that we paint the right picture here for people. In my tests, Build 16 using 4K, 16:9, 23.98, RC36 to a Red Drive has been stable. I received one codec error with an earlier beta release of Build 16, but that was it.

We all can agree the camera is not perfect, but it's critical to make sure the right info gets out there. That's what will move everything in the right direction. Good, accurate information.

4K 16x9

4K 16x9

I am 8 days into shooting a Showtime show with Tracey Ullman using 4K 16x9.

No problems using rc36 with Red Drives and then Stedicam and handheld with rc28 on CF cards.

Hope I haven't jinxed myself by posting this.

Hi all, 2 days ago, i was shooting on build 16, 4k, 16:9, RC28. It was a 16hours shoot in a fully air conditioned studio. We had a "codec playback error" twice, that and in one instance, audio not goin into the cam was the 3 problems we encountered. Just wondering, have anyone here encountered the codec playback error before? when it happens, i wasnt able to playback any of the earlier takes from camera.

Other than that, i am happy with the my RED1. :)

I did the VFX plates for Green Zone back in January using Build 12 shooting 4K 16:9 RC28 to 8GBCF, no big problems, no issues from the post and VFX houses.

No issues for me with later builds for 4K 16:9.

yeah, i got that codec error in build 15, never had no problem nowhere in 16, ta fellas
