  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Ironman freefall sequences shot on RED

I've noticed that RED is used often on the 2nd Unit, no matter what is the primary camera for 1st unit. I think it could be safely said that RED is the main camera used for fx heavy second units.
BTW, I'm taking both of Mike classes, and I love fxguide ... really helps me to keep current with so many things changing.

Great job CJ. I went to the opening in Hollywood at the El Capital theater (they had the Iron Man suites there ... was cool) and was looking down from balcony at the flying scenes and was thinking to myself, that looks real. I mean it was a ton of footage in the movie (I like the freefall, the wire removal stuff as they skimmed the water wasn't near as cool). Anyway, that's the most real flying sequences I have ever scene, it last for so so long ... actually adds tension because the real free fall was so much screen time. Is also is the best 3D aerial scenes i have scene (did you guys jump with 3D rigs or was that done in post?).

[btw if your in Hollywood, go see it at the El Capital theater, I love that organ show before the movie, and watching it their is a bit re-entrant since that street/area was used in the movie]

Hey Patrick- We only did some small parts for the film, once principle photography was finished. During post they found a few gaps that they needed some establishing shots for, like a new Stark HQ that was in Culver City, and the museum in Miami that played for The Mandarin's lair.

It was pretty cool though, we were doing our own stock shoot in the desert/palm springs area and both IM3 & WWZ were sending us shot requests & animatics as we were flying. At the time, IM3 needed a bunch of cloud stuff and SoCal never has great clouds, but we were able to pick up some other shots for them. There's nothing like being up in the air, checking your email and seeing an Iron Patriot previz shot to recreate. Good times.

At the end of the credits, I saw the Canon Cinema EOS logo but I can't find any mention of Canon being used anywhere else.
