we just finished shooting a feature film "iron doors".
shot on red 2072 "travis", photographed by me, directed by stephen manuel.
with a great cast - axel wedekind and rungano nyoni.

this is a mystery thriller and it will go in postproduction now.

i will post a lot of stuff about our setups of the camera and some first stills from the footage in the next days. 10 days shooting with almost no break - the camera did a great job, some very, very small issues, i will report in this thread soon.
but the images we shot are amazing, a lot of stuff we did in lowlight-situations with highspeed optics 1.3 and the material is almost noiseless. it´s simply great. we also used a 100mm arri macro, a 10mm, the red´s 300 and 18-50 and some shift/tilt stuff.

so, after a compact shooting of 10 days with no sleep i will take a breath, but here some pics from the shoot so far ... here in the setup with an arri 55-105mm lense

some more set photos

here we have our 10mm lense on an u-bangi and the 300mm red

these are some first stills with fast grading out of redcine.
the stills are strongly compressed right now as i have a slow connection right here ... imagine that the stuff is sharp
i will post better stills soon.

all is shot on asa320. main light sources were flatheads and china balls.

gaffer on this project was marco riedl.

some more ...

some few words to the red camera and my experience after this shoot:

under hardest conditions with dust and dirt, 15h days of shooting nonstop - there were no issue that causes any delay of the callsheet.

i had a problem with my power ac adapter, as the camera always went off after powering on. don´t know the reason, we sent it to check but the rental house said the adaptor was ok, so maybe another problem with the power supply on the set... no really issue as we continued with the batteries for shoot. i will take a support ticket in the next days to have response of red about this.
all was shot with the raid, no problems at all.
in 10 days we had 3 times no booting of the camera at the first time, but second time it was booting. so this was no issue.

all - producer, director, actors ... were more than happy with the footage.
great images, no technical bugs, #2072 "travis" was perfect and allowed us to shoot this feature in those amazing quality.

there will be some trailers for sure in some weeks.
i will post some more stills, light setups and experiences and will select some clips over the holidays for sure.

early january i will shoot the next 90 min feature in berlin with "travis", so the happy shooting goes on:w00t:

Looks like the tilt lock of the head need to be adjusted. Its locking position is too high.

yes - it will go to service next time. thanks.

some more nice - noiseless lowlight images from the footage

Impressive Jan! In need of a film composer to compose and original score for this? ;)

Best,

i will pass this on to the producers, thanks ! :w00t:

Thanks Jan! What's the other project you're going to work on in Januari? Can you tell anything about it? :-)

By the way, have a lovely Christmas and all the best for 2009!

Iron Doors, the first feature i shot on my red one in 2008, and so the really first serious approach with this camera , just won the "best cinematography" in paris at ECU, European Independent Film Festival.

Nice to see Red One #2072 "Travis" (and me as DOP :wink5:) getting this honour ,...

cheers
