Hi guys, I need to buy a 77mm and 82mm IR for a shoot I've got coming up which I'll be shooting with Canon L Series lenses. I've used a Variable ND in the past and now I think it prudent to add some IR Protection to the mix. Any suggestions as to how to accomplish this? I'll be bringing my 4x5 IR ND's but would like to be able to go with screw on filters for some handheld situations. Is it possible to go with a straight IR and add it to my variable ND? As always, any help would be appreciated.

Are they not offered from the filter suppliers (Schneider, Tiffen, Formatt, etc.)?

Also, I *think* fader NDs add more cast in general (not just IR) than single/fixed NDs, so it may be better if you don't have to rely on the variable ones.

make sure the hot mirror or whatever IR filter is the farthest out aka first filter light hits. I used to love fader ND's till i saw how much they soften the image and caused weird color shifts.

i have a singh-ray vari ND and tested it on my 70-200 and didnt notice any softening at all compared to it off the lens, my tiffen IR ND (1.5) seems to cause more color shift than my vari nd too
