  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

IR Cut threaded filters

You will want the IR (Hot Mirror) filter on the outermost stage.
If you thread on an IR hot mirror and place filters in front of it you will most definitely have reflection issues.

I would agree that IR filters weather they are Hot Mirrors or the IR absorption filters like the one he linked to should be on the outside.

That being said I have a ton of the BW 486 filters that I use on my Leica M8. They are very good filters and work exceptionally.

Mike, do you have any experiences with the 486 on the RED?

I have been wondering exactly the same thing and am looking at the B & W filter.

Some additional questions:

1. Is it the case that you cant use it on lenses wider than 35mm?
2. Does anyone sell ND screw on filters that are stronger than .9?

1] well you will get cyan corners on lenses wider than 35mm (still) but with the red it will be more like 25mm or 18mm. Even then it's easy to fix in post.
