iPHONE APP DISTRIBUTION for INDIE FILM - CASE: RED PRINCESS BLUES

Great job!!

Had replied her before, but I either did something wrong went posting or was deleted because I written something I should have ??

Any way doing something similar also for iPad for an upcoming project with added use of iAd, so I look forward for this kinda of new opportunities given to our disposal to take us to a new level of exposure.

Good Luck!!

Hey Alex,
I haven't downloaded your app yet but plan to tonight. As for the app, was there a reason you didn't embed the short film/videos into the app? Thoughts?

Great idea! Just a shame that the obvious option (uploading your movie to the iTunes store AS A MOVIE) is blocked by Apple instead of opening a new a potentially lucrative market for indies to get seen.

Cheers,

Paul

It would of been too big of an app for people to download. Thanks for the support!

what did it end up costing you? Do you need a monthly service or can it be for a onetime deal, with source code?

Most apps can be done for $995 - $2495 plus $19.95 - $99.95 per month.

hi alex,

do you have any plans to add content in the near future? many apps stay afloat and some continue to thrive by updating content regularly for customers. or perhaps another installment in the story?

also, did you ever consider a free app featuring just the trailer and then an in-app purchase of the entire short and extras?

are you hosting the content yourself or is the developer hosting as part of the monthly pricing you quoted?

i'm in preproduction on my own live action interactive app thus all my questions.

thanks

Hi Alex,
congrats on breaking new ground! I hope to buy this shortly after I get an iphone 4.

I bought your 'Broken' dvd back in the day and was very impressed. Now i'm curious, and I mean no disrespect, after the success of that, why didn't you go on up to a budgeted feature instead of trying to roll another high end short?

Thanks bro. It's not easy to get a feature made, especially the kind of stories I like to tell so I decided to show what I can do with more current technology and more seasoned actors and crew. Hope it works = )

Did you consider making a free version without the full film but selling the film within the free version as an in-app purchase?

How many downloads to date?

Possible. I've gotta see. No numbers yet, waiting on Apple.

Awesome stuff, Alex! I purchased.

Yep, I've been working on the same sort of thing - and I'm really glad you put some GOOD content up there. The more good films (with cool extras etc) that folks like you put up in the App store, the better for all of us.

It's the model of the future and we want consumers to feel that this is a rewarding way to connect to a movie.

Fingers crossed you sell a ton of these to people - and open their minds to buying our films this way too, heheheh :)

BTW, I actually wanted to see your film at Hollyshorts - but the DGA theatre was overbooked and they had to give the last 100 people who purchased tickets their money back.

Downloaded app on iphone and watched it on ipad with sound from stereo system.
It was very well done and entertaining. Have enjoyed Richard Tyson since 3 o'clock High.

The download is a bit slow but it's an interesting concept and I hope it can work. It would be a great way to get exposure for short films. Best of luck

Thanks for the support my friend! Glad you liked it.

99 cents with behind the scenes stuff and other fluff. I'd hit buy now if only I wasn't typing here and my SO didn't have the iPad.

I think I'm going to say hi to her now. :aureola:

Thanks for the support!

I'll have to check this out. I'm definitely interested in any info you can share once your reports come in from Apple. I'm working with some people on a project right now and we're considering distributing this way.

One other tidbit to note, Apple specifically does not allow one to distribute video or audio content or media direct through the app store. Essentially they don't want the app store competing with iTunes media sales. However, streaming apps are just fine, even if the app is designed to only stream one single piece of media -- as this one currently does. Or if there are interactive elements or other aspects of the media that warrant app store distribution. Such as distributing a short film with multiple endings that the the viewer can choose, I guess.

I would think distributing through iTunes media would be far more desirable and would reach a larger audience. Was this considered at all? For the above-mentioned project I'm working on, the reason why the client is shying away from iTunes media distribution in favor of approaching it through the app store is because Apple still has a total strangle-hold on who can publish through iTunes. Of the approved publishers that we have found so far, who would be willing to publish this to iTunes, they all want way too much of the proceeds... But I think many are being stand-offish at this point because we're not much past storyboards and concept art right now. We shoot in October.

This App has multiple videos, films, behind the scenes, etc. I designed it as a mini DVD experience.

The RED PRINCESS BLUES App includes:

- The ENTIRE 11 minute LIVE ACTION short film "Red Princess Blues"
- EXCLUSIVE Behind the Scenes Videos
- Red Princess Blues Soundtrack (by God of War Trilogy Composer Cris Velasco)
- FREE Tracks from The Enigma Factory Indie Film Workshop Series:
- WORKSHOP: Guerilla Marketing/Self Distribution for Indie Films
- WORKSHOP: Visual FX and Post Production Workflow for Indie Films
- EXCLUSIVE Behind the Scenes Photo Gallery
- Character Design Gallery
- Concept Art Gallery
- Direct link to RPB Twitter Page
- Red Princess Blues YouTube Channel
and more FREE updates coming in the future with more videos and content.

I'd love to have the film in the itunes store for download but Apple has not opened that door yet. Hopefully soon.
